deskscapes 2.0

buying Object Desktop..

If I buy object desktop (which I will be at some point anyways) how will we know when the beta is available? will the program 'tell' us in some way? or will we still have to check the site to see if it is here?

New apps will be announced through Stardock Central.  It's a great piece of software.

When any betas become available, as long as you have "show pre-release versions" checked then they will show up in SDC.  When something new is available, you will more than likely see a news post on WinCustomize about it.

I thought only dreams worked on only vista ultimate, how will this make dreams work on all versions?

BEHOLD THE POWER OF STARDOCK

AND BOW DOWN

BEFORE IT.

If it's true I will bow down and buy it, but does Microsoft approve of this since it will take away from Vista Ultimate sales?

Dunno.

See http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=942
and
http://www.istartedsomething.com/20071113/stardock-deskscapes-2/

Specifically:

Bit of interesting background, the implementation of an animated desktop feature in Windows Vista was actually first developed by Stardock. They then demonstrated the idea to Microsoft who partnered with them to produce the Ultimate Extra, DreamScene along with a batch of its original content. Stardock then shifted its focus on DeskScapes - a free extension to DreamScene which allowed for dynamic renderings instead of just static video, as well as a community to share user-generated Dreams.

As you might the same question I asked when I first heard about this, how Microsoft will ever approve of this? It’s basically slicing a huge portion of the already miniature Ultimate Extras cake to share with everybody. But it turns out Microsoft is fully aware of this release and Stardock’s involvement in the original Dreamscene is only as a content-provider.

Other than the availablity for other versions of Vista, does Deskscapes 2 bring anything new to the table at all? As a multi-monitor user, I would really like some of the following options: The abilty to run a dream on just one of my monitors rather than both, and use wallpaper on the other; the ability to run a different dream on each monitor; the ability to prevent the dream pausing on the alternate screen when I maximise a window in the primary.
