Some things I'd like to see for ObjectDock

Some things I'd like to see for ObjectDock

Wishfull thinking....

Now, don't get me wrong, for the money ObjectDock plus is a rockin' program. I love it. And the past few upgrades have been super. As a monkey that makes skins for OD, I sometimes find myself limited in the things I can do as far as design, but that's to be expected. The developers can't read the minds of the folks using or designing for OD. I understand that. So here are a couple of things I'd like to see for ObjectDock, if you have any others, feel free to post 'em. (oh, and if any of these are already in OD, slap me)

1. I know I can set my tabs to be different colors and have different fonts...however, what I'd like to see is a way to have different color fonts for active/inactive tabs. For example, the active tab has a white font, the inactive tabs has a gray or black font.

2. Blurring! I'd love to see the same option that WB6 now has where you could turn on blurring for the docks...say you have a clear dock and where you can see through it is slightly blurred. That would rock.

3. Docks that can be curved. I know I can make curved docks...but how sweet would it be to have the icons follow the curve of the dock?

Ok, your turn.

Thanx messiah, I just wanted to elaborate a little on my post, I was kinda in a hurry.  I've already moved all my seperators and weather docklet backdrops to individual folders so I can easily change them, with the fly out and weather backdrops It would be nice to be able to easily change them in the config., like running indicators.  Too bad on the animations, It would be pretty impressive though.  Finally, two other things I thought of today, ability to scroll through flyout menus using mouse wheel instead of arrows.  And last, I believe you can display opened windows as live preview or icon, I'd like to use an icon, but have thumbnail preview on mouse over like Vista.  OK, thats all for today, check back tomorrow.

Having the dockzip files automatically disperse all of the different pieces into corresponding folders and then being able to change them in the config window would be REALLY nice |-)

I would like to see it possible to manually show/hide a docks without using hotspots. Like sending a message through WinAPI (Send/PostMessage) to show/hide the dock, or running ObjectDock.exe with some parameters.

An ability to assign a hotkey is a good idea. k1

I have this one on the list for the developers already for customer suggestions. I will add a +1 next to that then.

Shar, I've suggested that too. Not being able to preview/delete the backgrounds from within the config itself is like my #1 complaint (other than the browse for icons being default the OD library which I have never and will never use). My hope (dream) is that the OD config will get a complete overhaul to match that of IP/WB, in which we can preview, apply, delete, add themes straight from there.

That would be awesome.

Here's one for dreaming.  I'd like to see sounds in OD.  Specifically for tabbed docks.  Click on a tab, play a sound.

Oh Wizop, from your fingers to their ears! lol, it would help so so much. I love this program, but I do see the basic need of some things to be changed. I'd like the Leopard (from MAC) way of flyouts, you know what I mean? Without having to shuffle thru all the icons by using that little arrow, wouldn't it be nice to have it open ended for it to flyout and pick off the bended arch? Anyhow, thank you for describing my wish so much better than I ever could!

And might I apologize for calling you Wizop instead of Bebi Bulma too! I am so sorry, my eyeballs are too tired, lol, I'm STILL trying to get it all in place!

Have you tried the Stack Docklet?  Visit this thread and see reply number 2 https://forums.wincustomize.com/170537

This will do what you want and I can tell you it's a great little docklet.

It would be great to be able to use separators in tabbed docks - although maybe it is already and I'm just missing it? :|

You are.  Just rightclick on the tabbed dock you want and select Add Entry, then New Separator.

Actually, I didn't ask the question very well.  Is it possible to use a separator image in a tabbed dock instead of just a space?

I think as long as the author of the docks has called out in the .ini file the use of a separator image it is.  If they don't have one built in, then you'll get a blank.  I may be wrong on that note though, as I've never tried to build them in, but the fact that it is available as an entry leads me to believe that it would work just like on a regular zoomer dock.

Wahaa! I know what I'm going to include in my next dock pack! *_*

Yeah.  I don't use them, so I usually forget to include them.  Same with Plus/Minus images and running indicators.  I've gotten better about the running indicators though and have included them with some of my recent docks.

Same here. I have my docks set up to never use the +/- images, and I've gotten stuck on one type of running indicator that I just always use.

I gotta admit, it would be nice to include separators for tabbed docks, but I'm not sure I'd use them anyhow.

A couple of suggestions and bugs I'd like to see added/fixed:

  1. Allow users to specify [horizontal and vertical] spacing between icons.

  2. Add the "Positioning -> Interaction" options for tabbed docks.  (Allow option for dock to remain on desktop only; not on top of other applications)  See here for more info.

  3. Bug: Renaming the Recycle Bin.  Desired display name for the Recycle Bin icon is not applied.  See here for more info.

  4. Bug: Unable to change font size of icon names.  Font remains at default size.

Cheers,

knowbase

Bug: Unable to change font size of icon names. Font remains at default size.

Open the ObjectDock Properties dialog box. Press the "Miscellaneous Options" button. Go down toward the bottom to "Label Fonts." changing the values here will change the font sizes for your icons.

If this is not working for you, you might want to contact Stardock Support. |-)

just an idea, don't know if this is possible, but... for the idea of a curved dock with icons that follow the curve, would it be possible to have a dock editor program in OD where you could trace a path that you want the icons to follow in the dock?  That way you wouldn't be constrained to a default curve angle.  Just an idea. I made these suggestions elsewhere (http://forums.impulsedriven.com/329638), but I figure it can't hurt to add them here too. :)

Read the above link for a more indepth description of the features I'd like to see. :)

The short version is;

  1. Subtabs. Would improve greatly on the existing tabbed dock.
  2. Rollodex like transition when switching tabs. It'd look awesome. :)

There goes, now reply and say you want it too, specially item 1, it would rock my world. :)

I seem to be very happy today... Didn't realise that until now. :D

I greatly appreciate the help, but that's for zooming docks only.  :(

I think it would be cool if there were a dock editing program; kind of like Skin Studio for WB's and the RightClick skin editor.

Of course, I think the skinning set up is fine now, but why not streamline it a little more? :)

Maybe this would be a good idea anyway, with some of the new features (like reflections) being added...

There's a skin editor for RightClick??!!XD :X
