Some things I'd like to see for ObjectDock

Some things I'd like to see for ObjectDock

Wishfull thinking....

Now, don't get me wrong, for the money ObjectDock plus is a rockin' program. I love it. And the past few upgrades have been super. As a monkey that makes skins for OD, I sometimes find myself limited in the things I can do as far as design, but that's to be expected. The developers can't read the minds of the folks using or designing for OD. I understand that. So here are a couple of things I'd like to see for ObjectDock, if you have any others, feel free to post 'em. (oh, and if any of these are already in OD, slap me)

1. I know I can set my tabs to be different colors and have different fonts...however, what I'd like to see is a way to have different color fonts for active/inactive tabs. For example, the active tab has a white font, the inactive tabs has a gray or black font.

2. Blurring! I'd love to see the same option that WB6 now has where you could turn on blurring for the docks...say you have a clear dock and where you can see through it is slightly blurred. That would rock.

3. Docks that can be curved. I know I can make curved docks...but how sweet would it be to have the icons follow the curve of the dock?

Ok, your turn.

Pictures in tabs. Yeah, I know, I'm crazy.

You can have a picture in the tab, it has to be done in the image editor though...

I was going to suggest tiles-over-backgrounds...but it appears that Frankell discovered that OD supports them already.

Actually, this was discovered a long time ago. Check out my dzd-001 background. (It may have even been done before that)

My apologies. With something like 800 pages, it's hard to keep track of such things. I tend to type in a search and pray. :/

oh, and one other thing...ehem...A GALLERY FOR OBJECTDOCK BACKGROUNDS ONLY! Move all the icons on steroids out of the OD library and put them where they belong, in misc. icons and only allow OD backgrounds and separators/indicators in the OBJECTDOCK Gallery.  :D

The docklets and dock themes can probably stay in the current OD gallery, the problem is the png icons themselves. Hopefully a solution will arise to reconcile this issue. :)

Yes, I know it's been posted. But it is relevant to the thread...therefore, posted.  ;)

I would like to see special icons, My Music, My Pictures etc return for XP, we had them with version 1.5.

Oh man. I had something I wanted to add here. But I decided to re-read through all the replies to be sure it wasn't already mentioned. And now I forgot what it was!!!!!!!!!!

that would be great.

OH!! I remember now.

Multiple sets/styles of clock hands for the clock docklet so that you can choose the ones you want to use. The current ones just don't look right with alot of the clock icons. ;)

a few months since last reply... not too old right? *bump*

1. Funny, I was just thinking about the curved dock idea, it could go well some some graphics and themes if I line it up right. What would really be cool if you could be able to specify the angle of the curve, whether it should be a gradual curve or a tight curve... or maybe a slight curve down to a slight curve up (like a subtle sine wave if u know what i mean). Or maybe something where you could define your own line shape/curve. Say you adjust the line curve (just like you would adjust color curves in photoshop) and the icons would just run right along whatever line or shape you made.

2. I would like to see more improvement over the taskbar ability. More specifically, a way to see right away what folders/windows you have open rather than having to hover over each one to find the one you want. I know in a tabbed dock you can display the names, but even then, I can't find a way to adjust the font size to make it smaller so it doesn't cut off the names so badly, like "Firef...". Plus the tabbed docks don't support the rollover effects (like glow, rock, etc.) I think the tabbed docks should have that support.

3. With the tabbed docks, I think you should be able to have the option of how the icons fill up your tab. Right now, it fills up from left to right, but it would be nice if we could fill it from the center out, or from right to left. It would also be nice if the tabs could automatically resize themselves according to how many icons you have in the dock. It looks stupid with all that blank area when you go from a tab of 10 icons to a tab of 3 icons.

4. Now this is probably a bit far-fetched, but hey... why not support animated icons? I wouldn't mind having a shimmering firefox logo or a folder that just kinda subtly glowed blue or something like that.

5. Is there a reason why a standard digital clock cannot be included with the OD? There's the analog, but I love my digital (I made one in DesktopX) but if we're going to hid the taskbar, at least package a nice simple digital clock with it...

I think that's all I can think of for now... :P

Good requests.

There is a docklet for this.

As zakai1369 said....they should include a variety of clock hands and some more clock faces, along with the ability ti make our own clock hands. I'm stuck with those dull ones and it looks horrible with the clock face (:(

1. Being able to delete/add desktop background from the Appearance settings. Many background packages have five+/- versions, of which I'd only like to keep one or two. Figuring out which ones I can delete without affecting the others is confusing.

+1 Please
When I hover over the weather docklet the flyout works, without clicking.

I always have to click mine, free also.I get current conditions on mouseover.

I'd like to see the OD config updated and totally revamped to match the WB/IP ones. Consistency is a good thing. Would be *really* nice if we could delete backgrounds from the config itself, right now we have to apply, decide to keep or delete, switch to another skin so you can delete the previous one, etc, rinse and repeat. Also, would be nice to actually see a preview of the background on the dock before actually applying it.

Right click, Weather Docklet Properties, set to flyout on mouseover.

I have since bought OD+ and although there is an option to set it to flyout on mouseover it will not allow me to click it. ;p

Flyout on hover only works on zoomers, not tabbed docks. At least that's what Giz told me.

That would explain why I cant click that setting then.

You can,sorta.

I go to config/appearance/background and click the arrow on the right of the list. The flyout opens.Click it again the flyout closes but you can use scroll to go through the backgrounds. Make sense?Works for me.

That's not what I mean. The "preview" in the list there only works for tabbed backgrounds that make use of actual "tabs" and I mean a preview of the entire dock, icons and all, with the background on there.

That is unless you mean something else, I'm not really sure without a screenshot.

We must be talking about different things. The free version lets me scroll through all of my backgrounds onto the dock on the desktop, not in a preview.
You can do the same in OD+ Wizard but the previews in the window itself are distorted and you have to start from the beginning of the list every time not from the skin you are currently using. It would be much nicer to avoid both of those things.

and how's about a GUI for editing the ini files, with real-time updating/previewing...

That is a great idea...

I. windows class sub-level separation put back in.

II. zoomer docks skinning correctly like tabbed docks do.

III. give tabbed docks a real zoom function instead of overlaying a bigger version of the icon on top of itself which screws with transparencies/shadows and so forth.

IV. when choosing to assign a tabbed dock background, rather than the preview being a tab, be the dock background, or let us set up our own preview images for the backgrounds we make.

V. allow text color to be different between active and inactive through use of ini or letting end users change it through the properties window.

VI. allow tabs on left and right to have horizontal text.

VII. give me the ability to assign a hotkey function to pull up a dock rather than hotspots

VIII. allow us to change, or don't assign a default background/icon/tab. i delete what i don't use, that includes pretty much everything that is installed by default, but make a new dock after doing that and you have to hunt around your screen for an invisible dock.

IX. allow us to cycle through tabs to put on zoomer docks rather than applying a default [see above] or get the zoomers out of my selection window when assigning a skin to a tabbed dock.

X. transparency options for tabbed docks.

XI. an alternative to the flyout menu such as a flat out, not trying to be fancy, list; built in. yes it's pretty watching things spin around, but when you have more than a few items it's a chore to select the one you want.

XII. under "my docks" let us turn off or at least choose to not display a dock rather than deleting it. especially for us that make backgrounds it gets annoying to have to make, sort, and in the end delete "test docks", but surely other users would like a simple toggle for other reasons.

XIII. ability to change the flyout menu's arrows as well as the plus and minus buttons the same way you change running indicators.

XIV. agreed in the ability to change the clock hands, not just for customizations sake, but because if your clock is big enough you will notice they're a far cry from high quality, at least make the current clock hands 256x256.

XV. alignment of icons within tabbed docks since they do not stretch to fit like zoomers the same way you can change alignment of the tabs themselves.
