Argh, it's dry scaley skin season again...

As I've gotten older, my ability to deal with cooler weather, and the dry heat that comes with it, has gotten worse.  I don't mind the cool weather at all really.  Actually I prefer it to oppressive heat and humidity from summer months, but that's just me (and my thoughts of having to pay a fortune to run the air conditioner to keep cool during those times).

Winter months come around, the weather gets cooler, and into downright cold, the heat comes on, and I start to settle into a routine of warming the house with the furnace set to heat up on the automatic timer in the a.m.  At about the time this cycle and season really kicks in though, I find myself becoming a walking scratching post down around my ankles and my hands.  Dry, cracked, scaley skin.  Skin that itches like crazy and begs to be scratched.

It is about this time of year that I break out the Cortisone cream with Aloe in it and apply a dose or two a day for about a week to get things back under control, and then hopefully use another dose or two here and there to keep things cool later.

For now I guess I'm dealing, but I swear the cotton socks I have one currently are really making me want to just cut off my legs at the ankle.  Ugh.

Dry skin is horrible.  Mine gets so bad that I literally cannot stand it.  The best thing I have found is gloves in a bottle.  It's not cheap but it's worth it to me.

I saw a commercial this morning for some stuff called Eucerin (or similar).  Doctor recommended (so they claim).  As it turns out, I think my dermatologist actually did recommend that stuff or something similar before.  I just hate over paying for that sort of stuff and normally don't care for the smell and/or feel of it.

The cortisone with aloe normally does ok by me, but I've been scolded (by dermatologist) to not use it too much or too frequently (I don't, I use it sparingly, and only the over-the-counter strength anyway).  It just sucks waiting for the medicine to really kick in and do it's job as the dry skin normally wins the battles for a few days.

Eucerin

eucerin is really good. My oldest has eczema and it helps him a lot. If you've already fouund what works for you, stick with it. I do agree that the smell makes a big difference.

Heh, I'm dreading the days when I really start to smell 'like old people'.  That mixture of Bengay on the joints here or there, Cortison with Aloe in other places, powder here or there, and other things that bring back memories of 'old people hugs' and such.

Speaking of "old people hugs" and such,  one of my favorite smells,  or in this case a memory,  is that of my dear Grama Lottie.  She always smelled like Ivory soap and baby powder....good Lord what I'd give now for a hug from her....

ahh yes dry itchy winter skin.  Mine has started too,  time for me to break out the Vasoline and wear socks over my vasoline coated feet....and hands too!

That Eucerin is too expensive for me.  Otherwise...

Who would put gloves in a bottle...wouldn't it be hard to get them out?
