Yup I think its about time I invested in a graphics tablet, gonna go get one from best buy here in a minute, If you have any stories, advice, bad\good experiences, let me know..

Also, for those of you that have one, how valuable are they to you, how often do you use them and for what types of projects.

Looks like 'drawing' with the mouse is about to be history.

A friend of mine does cartoon work with a tablet and he swears by them. Not exactly skinning but the possibilities are practically unlimited. Mental Studios

I am so insanely jealous, I may leave skinhit alone for a while and concentrate on you.

Got some extra, extra long pins for that if ya want 'em...tho I'm told fish hooks do an excellent job...their removal guaranteed to derive more enjoyment/pleasure than their insertion.

Oooh don't BookChick - I'm already in so much trouble with her indoors for spending a fortune on my latest toys.

FWIW John, I sourced mine through Amazon. (Intuis3 (A4))

Pretty much does as it's advertised, I've not really adapted yet to drawing on one surface, while looking at another - but that appears to be just a matter of practice.

For Photoshop user's with a graphics tablet, the link below is a good starting point when beginning to tackle settings for the brush dynamics:-

I got the Intuos3 both at work and at home.

I hardly ever use my mouse. I've been using a Wacom for the last 4-5 years I guess, can't do nothing without it. I feel handicapped using a mouse.

When I don't have the pen between my fingers and I type something on the keyboard, it feels strange - I always have it there, it's like this thing has gone into a weird symbiosis with myself. We've become one.

I've only good things to say about it. There's a little learning curve, but once you master it, you'll never go back.

The only thing I don't like about Wacom though, is their new logo thing on their site.

Indeed ...and now all over their newsletter. What were they thinking, going with that?!

Hideously ugly!

I bought my Intuos3 about a month [or so] ago ...still learning to drive the durned thing in my spare time, but I gotta say it is absolutely awesome.

I had a cheap imitation, which now lives in a cupboard. Has 512 pressure levels [Intuos3 has 1024] and most of the stuff the wacom has, but that thing was HUGE and always in the way. Also had trouble getting new tips for the 'pen' for it. By contrast, the Wacom is smaller, easier to use, and slides away nicely into the shelf area I have sitting behind my monitors. Pen is very user friendly too.

Well, I was going to get one of the less expensive Wacom's but I think you guys have talked me into an Intuos3... so now I'm glad I didn't buy what I was going to.. Unfortunately its going to have to wait another month..

Good things come to those who wait though right?

I never missed that typo you fixed in the title either, bud...

The Intuos3 will be well worth your minor wait John, you'll see...
