The devs just said "there won't be a campaign in a traditional sense", more or less. Which may mean there's no campaign at all and it's just a bunch of scenarios, or it's a non-traditional campaign (like Empire at War, or something).

Either way, that's all we know. They just never flatly confirmed or denied the presence of any kind of a campaign

we can neither confirm nor deny the presence of aliens at this time

I am speculating that it will be a series of "sandbox" scenarios with a goal. Like capture planet "x", or forge an alliance with the Vasari in order to defeat the Advent, or something like that. Not unlike the Galactic Civilizations II dread lord campaigns.

If there is no campaign then perhaps a series of "historical" scenarios chronicling the wars between TEC, vs. the Vasari, and Advent.

lol...funny pic...goes well with what you said

Devs have stated that there will be some kind of single player story driven thingey, but not a campaign in a traditional sense. No clue what they're doing, they haven't told us yet.

It would be pretty strange if the campaign was simply a 60 star map with the Advent, Vasari, and the TEC empires pre placed on it. Oh, and we can't forget the mystery aliens that the Vasari fear so much.

Naw, it will be a sandbox series of missions. Still, I find myself hoping they do something different than the standard 'series of small map scenarios that make up a bigger campaign'. I just don't see how they could do it differently though.

I'm hoping for something Imperium Galactica II style -- standard "large map" only you have storyline based "missions" crop up.

AFAIK its never been said that the Vasari is running from aliens, only that they are running from an unknown danger

That's basically how it was in Empire at War. You had your whole galaxy map, and new objectives opened up as you went along. Travel to various planets was restricted so you wouldn't break the storyline, but still

I'm hoping for a similar thing here too. *crosses toes*

our current theories are a space-doom explosion and aliens...

we aren't a creative bunch.

We also said plague.

But yeah, there was word of a single player mode, just not how it will be done.

Really way back we (mayeb only me) even talked about some sort of supernova they were running from.

We also said plague.

i dont see why they would have to run so long away from that, unless the plague is alive and killing

They are running more out of tradition then anything else.

Though there is apparently something chasing after them, for it is clearly stated in the what is left of the lore section(if its still there) that the probes they place at locations they visit go silent.

1) that was karma's idea, and 2) it falls under big space boom death.

we put people in jail because its tradition.

no... no I dont think so...

doesnt preclude big death boom space.

they are running from radio transimsions of Barney, every time a Vasari related peice of technoligy recieves a Barney transmision, it goes baserk (kinda like Dell computers)

any way, I LOVE campaigns, especial after playing HW's. I am a BIG fan of stright forward Sci-fi story line plot.

So I hope it has something new and ingenious (never in doubt) but also has a clear playable plot, that is as well portraid (if not better) than HW's.

that is what I hope, but I am open to new ideas.

u can't have a storyline without a campaign

Incarciration is negative reinforcement, it rarely has long lasting effects.

So it is a tradition a costly 30,000 a year tradition.

But people like to do things big in America, so meh.
so you're saying you would prefer we didnt arrest them...

its not negative reinforcement (its punishment, foo') so much as its the fact that we want them off our perfect suburban, peaceful streets

duh.
But people like to do things big in America, so meh.

I'm sure they dont arrest people in Europe and Russia and China and India and Africa and Cambodia and Cuba and Hawaii and New Cork and Greenland and (blah blah blah blah)

There are better ways to change a humans behavior, that is all I am saying.

Re-read what was said. There will not be a campaign in the traditional sense.

Edit:

And yes, in fact, you can have a story without a campaign.

Going on more creative guesses from what the Vasari are running from...I say there's not running from anything real. Here's a twist. Imagine that a computer virus was shutting down all Vasari communications and was "chasing" the Vasari through the last communication burst of each probe (the virus then gets inbedded in the next probe but takes time to shut it's communications down). In this scenario, the Vasari still have a huge empire, the Dark Fleet just didn't get to this branch of the Vasari in time to stop them from fleeing. So in fact, the "threat" the Vasari are running from does not truely threaten their existence.

Personally I think this idea is completely far-fetched and I highly doubt the devs actually have this in mind (unless they Sins flops at retail and they don't make an expansion so they might reveal this in a patch...and remember devs, if sins flops and you have to use this kind of cop-out explanation, I want to be in credits   ). The aliens rac, plague, and big boom theories are more likely if an expansion ends up being made (or a Sins 2). But I thought I'd add in another random possibility.
