Surrender Idea

Currently, when a race surrenders they effectively disappear. In reality though they would be working with their new masters. I thought it would be cool if there was a chance of getting an abilities bonus to reflect this when a race surrenders to you -- kind of like how the Soviet Union and the US got a "rocket science bonus" after WW2 due to the efforts of former German scientists.

Perhaps you should get half of their ability bonuses in various categories?

It would be too destabilizing.

I was thinking maybe a small bump to one ability, perhaps only if a race you're not a war with surrenders to you. Maybe a way to pump up the Good alignment.

Maybe the race who surrenderd would also giv up his technology and treasury to the lucky fella? Jus a thought.

Well, this sounds great assuming the AI surrenders to YOU. How will it be when the AI surrenders to another AI?

And it would be too destabilizing as FireBender said. Imaging plaing with 9 opponets and eventually having like all the bouses of six or eight of them. Even after 3 i would think that you'd be virtually unbeatable. Even more so then you usually are with all the additional captial buildings.

I do think thet the tresury should not disappear altogether.

It could be done in an overlay, rather than an additive manner. The civ accepting the surrender would get the greater of the bonuses, but the available bonuses wouldn't stack. Meaning that if the Torians surrender to the Altarians, the Altarians would get population growth and influence bonuses, but no additional morale or econ bonuses (as they already have these).

This would make being surrendered to more worthwhile, yet not be overpowered.

I do not think they should surrender to races they are not at war with.

Can you imagine the French in WW2 deciding to surrender to America instead of Germany?
It just wouldn't work, the Germans and probably the Americans would not have accepted it. Or as another example, in Babylon 5, during the Earth Mimbari war, can you imagine Earth surrendering to the Centauri and the Centauri accepting it?? hahahaha I mean the list of examples just goes on and on - surrendering, get it right!

If they did anything like this I'd want to see surrendering reworked first. As is, there's no way to tell really who the computer will surrender to. So before they start throwing bonuses around all willy-nilly, let's at least see who they want to surrender to or something similar to the positive/negative affection rating in the race tab.

As it is, I think in all the games I've ever played, rarely do I get surrendered to, even if I'm number one in all categories and blindingly good ethically.

I had a good idea for surrendering.... When a race surrenders, all its planets and units become passive inactive and available to be claimed by passing military vessels. Any of its planets or units inside the boarders of another race, automatically join that race.

Or better yet, when a race surrenders all the races can bid against eachother for the spoils!

21 here! 22! 25! 27! 1,2,3 Earth SOLD to the Drengin in seat 36!
