Currently, most players tend to play in 1 star system games, due to the facts that multiple systems will make games longer for 1V1 and in 2V2 and above placement is... sub-optimal at the moment. Single player is a different ballgame, where you question doesn't even make sense (because there is no standard size, nor should there be)

well there isnt a definite answer, but lets do it this way.

currently the largest map is a huge random which has 5 stars (I think the scenario map aerelian sector has even 6).

however this is only for this beta, as far as I heard, before there was a slider or star picker where you can do many more combinations of stars and planets. I'm only in since beta 3 so I never saw this, but I think you could do it up to 10 stars there ingame, not sure though. this enhanced modability is said to return in beta 4 so if you wait a little longer we can give you a much better answer.

apart from copying an existing random and changing a few values (which is all the modding you need to do to play any random type map size) that's all I know.

In beta 2, you could choose a "custom galaxy" were you could go from 1 star system to 10, with up to 100 planets (total). With mods, you could change that to any number you wanted -- 69 star systems with 10,000 planets each, coming right up, if your computer can handle it

That said, pre-made maps only go up to 6 star systems at the moment, though that may change.

supcomfan i really think you should watch the gameplay videos, those will answer a gazillion of your questions
or if worse comes to worse you might more have questions

You forget, he wants to know everything about the game but yet remain surprised about its gameplay!

Perhaps using the "search" function might be in order? I am pretty sure 90% of your questions have already been asked, and answered. Better yet just get the beta, and see for yourself. I think the beta is THAT good. Better than most "gold" games i've played.

This isn't supcom, or some EA game where the dev's pay lip service to the fans during its beta stage, and ignore most of the fans input, because they just want your damn money. Who cares if the game works right, or not. If you read back post's, the Dev's DO listen to our opinions, and have implemented some of our suggestions.

A one star, one hundred planet game was rather amusing in B2. So many planet connections...

Wow, that would take a while to play.

yes, but at that point entry and exit points to your sector of the system become incredibally important, the games are very much worth playing. even vs. ai.

Well you can make your own maps in the galaxy forge tool on this site and spawn as many stars as you want very easily. But I haven't tried going too far.

Maybe I'll try that now :HOT:

I'd say you could go to 25-50 playable easily. I've made a game with 150 stars and it didn't crash - however, it was much lower FPS than a normal game and I could see it getting bad if there wa sa large fleet engagement.
