Xion Questions

I downloaded Quinten94's Airleen Xion and watched in wonder at the speakers that thumped with the music. I decided to give that a try. I opened up the Airleen and looked at the layers. It did'nt look too hard..... but I can't get it to work!

1. Do the layers have to have the word "passthrough" on them?

2. Do the layers have to right above a specific layer? (I want them to react to the bass)

3. What order do the layers have to be in?

I've tried a few things but nothing is working. By the way, I use GIMP, but I'm sure anybody with Photoshop can help me with this too.

Hmmm, so, "passthrough" isn't needed. Looks like each layer has to be named and numbered somehow. I'll have to so more experimenting.

Still not working. I have to be missing something important. I named the layers exactly like the example.

in order to react to bass you need to have the 1.0.84 version of xion installed so make sure of that first. next you should put all the layers in a layerset and name it animation animtype(9) direction(0) (JUST LIKE THAT) that's the simple name, you can do other stuff though. the direction will go down the list so you'll have the tinyiest movement on the top layer, biggest movement at the bottom. The actual layers for the animation set don't need to be named anything specific but you can if it helps you. I go from 1 to whatever. Make sure the only layers that are visible are the "at rest" layers, all other movement layers should be unchecked (eye) when you save it to use except the actual layer set. That help?

I'm thinking.... possibly script to call upon the bass thumping layers

Gimp will not do layer sets. Is that going to be a problem?

Yep. You need those for animations.

Best thing to do...send it to someone with PhotoShop when yer done and have them finalize it and send it back...don't know what else to tell you. I've heard there is a PS plugin for GIMP but not sure how it works.

I'll look into that.

I know someone with photoshop, hate to bother him with it though, would make it difficult to test it out if I had to send it to someone every time I wanted to check it.

Looks like I need to get Photoshop.  Thanks everybody for trying to help me!

I am in no way technically minded like you clever folk ... But maybe in some way ,
this little bit of info would help ...

I do not have PSP OR COREL as here in the UK they are really expensive ..

So I use Paint.net .. WHICH DOES HAVE SAVE AS A .PSD OPTION .... so you can save as many Layers as you want ..

http://frankblumenberg.de/doku/doku.php?id=paintnet:psdplugin

~ As an aside , I have used Paint.Net for quite a while ... and in my simple terms it is great ..
it does what it says on the tin ... for me anyway ...

I hope this might have helped you ...

Regards

Mike

Can Paint.net do layer sets?

... Well, don't quote me on this , but I think so .. I have started to design a XION player and
as long as you save your .psd's into the interfaces folder , you can load them in to see if they work ..

~ BTW Paint.Net IS free so why dont you give it a whirl , and don't forget that the guys and gals on the xion forum are very helpful too ..

Just thought I'd add to this post a bit.

The PS plug in for GIMP apparently does not do layer sets. That is planned for a future version of GIMP.

Best I could do was use a layer called trans_volume(l or r) and have it fade in and out to the volume. The problem with this is that it seems to only work some of the time. If you load the interface in the middle of a song, it will work. As soon as the next song starts...nothing. I think it might be a glitch in the program?

I have not checked out paint.net yet. I'll probably check into that this weekend.

By the way, if you want to check out what I mean...
