Troy for dreamy girls or historians??

Sunday night I went and saw Troy starring Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Orlando Bloom. Before I actually knew the movie was coming out I was enthralled with Greek mythology. So I knew a little about Hector and Achilles. When I saw the movie I thought that history was made into a romance and a struggle of one's mind, more than a story of history. Don't get me wrong, Eric Bana is awesome as Hector and so is Brad as Achilles, but I think that it is not Oscar worthy. But I can be wrong the Oscars have fooled me many times. I hope to hear from people who watched the movie and how the liked/disliked it. All- in all it was a awesome movie with all of the fighting scenes. I liked it and came home happy!!

Troy is based on the Iliad by Homer, which is partly based on a war that preceded Homer by more than few years.

He's tale is told so as to define exactly what a "dreamy" Greek (or any other) man should look, act and talk like.

Courage, built like an ox but still in possession of features that could be considered feminine, loyalty, super human fighters, respectful of the gods, respected amongst men and loved by women.

It seems in Hollywood the same traits are respected if found within characters. The actors that play them are another matter....

Yeah, it's obvious that it's a fag flick. Sorry guys, it's sad but true.

There is a reason that "speaking Greek" is commonly used as a euphemism:)

it was an ok movie.  not Oscar material.  Worth renting on DVD, but not worth seeing in the theater...

Yes but in the Iliad Homer combines mythology and history! The Trojan war, and the gods of Greece!

First, allow me to aplaud another mythology admirer *aplauds*....now, I haven't seen this new "Troy" movie, and I doubt I will, for one simple reason...hollywood usually tends to screw up even the best stories....my opinion from the looks of the previews and feedback is one of disgust....I believe Brad Pitt...no offense to the guy...is not really a character that should portray a person from one of Homer's epics...so I'm gonna have to go with the dreamy girls/homosexual guys vote.....
