It's Not Real Sex, It's HBO

Or is it?!

Then again, come to think of it, Real Sex, the series, is on HBO!

Have any of you seen the new HBO series "Tell Me You Love ME"? It pretty much borders on being porn! Although that would be soft-porn and not the really hard-core graphic porn! I was intrigued with the show when I saw HBO advertising it because it is supposed to be about married and involved couples and the 'stuff' they are going through. The peaks into it seemingly dealt with the struggles some couples go through, sex, or the lack of it, not being about to have children, being bored with each other, or not attracted to each other...cheating spouses...you name it!

One of the things I didn't realise was there would be so many sexual acts in it, seemingly pornographic! I actually don't mind seeing the sex act initiated or otherwise involved in the plot of the show, I think it's great that they do show some of those scenes! Especially if it helps the storyline to flow and be understood. But is it real? I know this might not be important to some people, but if the show is going to be a porn, then say it and stop pretending! There's nothing more I hate than actually seeing simulated sex. If I wanted to be tantalized, I would go rent a porn movie.

Why is it so important to see the couples in action, tearing their clothes off each other, doing foreplay, having sex, even to go so far as to show the man's balls in one scene as he have sex with his partner! I wondered to myself if it was really real and as an actor, how do they even pull this off?!

I really prefer the movies on the Oxygen network, although they simulated the sex scenes too, at least they were more realistic and came with a better storyline! I would rather to be emotionally captured by what is actually going on between the couples and how they are trying to work on their problems. And then if they happen to make love while they are doing that, so be it. But to have sex scenes in almost all of the scenes, and as often as they do, and explicitly as they do...totally unnecessary and definitely porn!

I was clicking through channels one evening and happened upon this show. At first, I was just watching a couple talking at home...then sooner than you know it, clothes are off, and some intense sex scenes are going on...lol.

It seems like an interesting show, but I haven't watched it since then. I can see how you relate it to soft porn...lol.

Soft is just disappointing...hard has some staying power.

We have basic cable...but HBO (5 channels of it) are included. Plus HBO on demand. Never heard of this show though. But I don't watch a lot of HBO, or tv period, except of course Nickelodeon. No porn there....yet.

You hit on something I may write an article about. Sex is real life and there are instances when I think it is almost mandatory in fiction to make the story seem "real." But I struggle with it because while I like to write love scenes, I rarely put them into my stories because I don't want it to be considered porn.

This show sounds like porn that needed an excuse to air on HBO...thus the somewhat plot.

If they showed a guy's package then you can bet its real. Real sex, even between actors is sex.

True! Usually they don't do that, show the guys body parts, in this one they do, which was rather surprising and kind of liberating. Because they are always so quick to show a woman's breasts, etc., but not the male parts!

Yes, there are times that it happens naturally, as in real-life. Some books are more explicit with love scenes now a days too, that becomes a natural and realistic part of relationships in fiction stories. There is a way to write them though. I've written some stuff with explicit and not too explicit love scenes. I guess it depends on the audience, although mine haven't seen any - yet! In a way, it's going with the 'times' because everyone can't be like Barbara Cartland the romance writer who has been in the business for a long time and whose love scenes or pretty safe! At least they used to be when I read her books as a teen!
