Illegal Software and Object Dock

(Anyone reading this for the proper fix to the system tray, weather and search docklet problems scroll to the last few lines)

(For any Stardock personnel or moderators reading this post I would like to just say a few words regarding illegal downloading and use of software.)

It is undeniable that there are individuals who would just download cracked software to save a few dollars or from its ease via p2p software. However there are users of illegal software that would be more than willing to pay for great system and aplpication software that is both usefull and a joy to use,e.g. the stardock series. The problem however, exists in a large part (in my experience) outside of the U.S. and is a payment transaction problem. Payment is done by credit card transaction or sometimes "paypal" over the net. The problem in many 3rd world countries, is lack of a credit card. Where in most 1st world countries obtaining this is seemless. Issues of corrupt government and poor devlopmental plans lead the average citizen to a high cost of living with associated implications of ridiculous financial policy that leave the avergage consumer without credit card access for fear that he or she will be taken advantage of. Also while credit card abnormalities are a global concern as well as credit card security. Less developed countries are much more prone due to both a lack of knowledge as well as resources.
(This just needed to be said as software is a product and there are illegal users of software who are of this view and would appreciate alternative payment options.)

That being said, there has been no end to posts about objectdock's system tray's icons not showing up, as ell as search docklet and weather docklets being inoperable. The lead developer I believe Jeff is his name addressed in a forum post that stardock was trying to solve the problem in the next release. There has been a workaround fix of deleting the stardocktray.dll file and resorting to the old method of tray processing through SDMCP and(I am not a tech guy bear with me as my references might be off)However, this work around allowed right click and click functionality to only some elements of the system tray. Thus not too much of a workaround.

And the punchline is, I beleive these issues are related to illegal copies of objectdock 1.9 that have not been cracked properly. While this information is useful for developers at stardock I ask that they not attack these users as not everyone is a software pirate, a lot of people as well have been duped when they buy computers with preloaded software as well.

The error exists in an hidden file consistency check that crack developers may have missed when they cracked the software. And as a result, users have complained to stardock. The soulution is a new version of the crack that addresses these problems

I will not post any links as I respect stardock, I jsut wanted stardock to know that the problem exists only in illegal copies I think and to make current users of illegal copies aware that they need an updated crack for the program version 1.9 to put an end to everyone's concerns.

... or, they need to not make excuses for the illegal use of the software no matter how useful it is to them and simply live within the rules and restrictions that may be in place regarding importing and exporting of the software, and restrictions on doing credit card business over the internet from one country to another that are in place to protect all of the parties involved, etc.

There is no excuse for illegal software usage, and there should be absolutely ZERO tolerance for people that are using software without paying for it.  No support.  No talk about needing to find newer cracks, or better cracks for the software, etc.

Pay for the software you use and if you can't pay for it for some reason or another don't use it.

Finally, if you are working with a version of the software that you somehow magically obtained without paying for it, DON'T ASK THE DEVELOPERS FOR SUPPORT.  They owe you nothing.  Go back to the places you got the software from and ask the people that stole it to help you make it work.

How 'bout them apples.

I agree completely with terpfan.

"The soulution is a new version of the crack that addresses these problems " "Get and updated crack" are you nuts? The REAL solution is to just buy the damn program.

A timely reminder that anyone advocating the use of 'cracks' will be removed from the site.

While I can understand that not everyone has access to a credit-card and that a lot of people to not have the financial needs to buy all the software they need, I feel that your "logic" is rather flawed. I agree with terpfan when he thinks of this as an excuse.

1. To my knowledge, Stardock products can be bought through money order. A credit-card or a pay-pal account is not actually needed. --- there goes the "I have no credit-card" excuse

2. ObjectDock plus is not something that is needed to survive. Its just a nifty and handy little program that also makes your computer look cool. --- I am pretty sure that even without ODplus you will be able to write your term-papers or fill out your spread-sheets.

3. There is actually a free version of ObjectDock 1.9 available. Yes, legal, free and bugfree since it is not cracked, and it does pretty much the same as the plus version with the exception that it doesn't have tabbed docks and it doesn't have the capability to run multiple docks. --- thats for the "pirating is the only way we people can get software at all" excuse.

So why do you feel that you are somehow "forced" to pirate this software?
