Political Battles at the Fringe: Impotence vs. Action

Do you really believe that or are you being melodramatic?

One of the common things you see coming from fringe groups, particularly those on the far left, is that our government is horrible and its leadership criminals and all kinds of assertions that the world has gone to hell in a handbasket.

But do they really believe this?  If they do, and yet do nothing, would that not make them cowards?  If you really believe that our government has become a fascist, evil, force for evil in the world or is indeed the biggest threat to world peace but you do nothing but sit in front of your monitor in your comfortable home then what does that make you?

In their own minds, yes, they do believe this.  However, in their world they believe in income redistribution, that everything must be distributed equally, and that dictators and terrorists just don't exist.

These are the same people who constantly tell everyone we are living in a "police state", however, none of them actually understand what a real police state is.

Liberal hatred and logic are based on emotion, and their over dramatic rants prove this.

They aren't? From your own observations they've taken over the educational system.

Control of education is the only way to effect lasting change in society. Revolution's got nothing on moulding the impressionable minds of the next generation. It's worked for the women's movement, it's working for the 'gay rights' movement, it's worked for creating voter apathy, it'll work for whatever end it's put to next.

It's slow though, and that's why you get those ridiculous stunts and poorly written blogs. You've got to have something to do over the decades when your weapon of choice is so slow-paced.

However I think the question was directed to the loons on that site whose purpose in life was to insult and degrade anyone that did not agree with them. What were THEY doing.

Hardly.  While most teachers are left of center, few of them would agree with the views of the typical Chimpster.

And while many college professors are left wing kooks, they teach in subjects that are largely meaningless.

The reality is, power will always be in the hands of the motivated.  The losers on Smirking Chimp aren't likely to ever actually do anything to change the world either in the near term or the long term. The most they might do is go to a protest (well if it's close by and the weather is nice). 

One observation I did have from reading through the forums - an awful lot of the nuts there are living on disability. I don't know why that is, but the fact that they bring it up so often was something I noticed.

Ah okay, so you're only talking about nutjobs - my reading comprehension seems to have disappeared recently. Personally I pay them no mind. There's no end to the depth of craziness on the intarwebs. You can find a few thousand people with almost any kind of delusion, insanity or bizarre viewpoint - SomethingAwful's forum tours really opened my eyes to that.

You've got a point. The smirking chimps are unlikely to be in any position of authority or have any effect on the world save make it slightly less attractive. Still, you have to admit their ignorance is sometimes a little funny - I had a look at that thread you posted before and you were slamming them. It's nice to have people in this world who are too stupid to know when they're losing.

So was drmiler (much the same as smirking chimps in my view) but also LW for a while, if I have my facts right.

Living on social security doesn't make you an idiot, and being disabled doesn't have to mean that either.

But then again if you've got nothing else to do with your time except to sit around then you may as well take your resentment and anger on the internet. It fills in the hours until your lonely and horrible death.
