First Game - The Altarian Resurgance
Not too many screenshots.

OK. So today I started my first game. As you must know due to my pesky buzzing around here that I was going to start with the Terrans. Well... at first I did. But then my game crashed after alt-tabbing in and out many times to take screenshots. Or rather, it was taking too long to get back to the game using alt-tab, and I thought it had crashed, so I ended the application.
So next time around, I decided not to go with the Terrans and create a custom race instead - I had been wanting to know what they're like.
So here's my race, the Altarian Resurgance. They are Altarians who, not standing the fact that they had taken so many losses to the Drengin, got desperate. They managed to steal Spore technology from the Korath, and aren't afraid to use it. This outraged the Altarian Resistance, who, being Good, are against genocidal weapons. But the Resurgance want revenge against the Drengin. They break off and find a planet, New Altaria, where they can expand from. With the vengeance aside, the Resurgance, like all Altarians, wish to spread overall peace and kindness to the galaxy.(i.e. Super Annihilator, Good Alignment)

That's just about all the story I'll be writing. Now for the game.
It's a Large Galaxy. Abundant Asteroids. Uncommon Anomalies. Uncommon Planets. Uncommon Stars. Rare Habitable Planets. Tight Clusters. Tech Trading & Super Abilities ON. Blind Exploration & Mega Events OFF. Challenging Difficulty, all Bright AIs. The other races were the Arceans, Drengin, Torians, Terrans, Resistance, Yor, Korath, Krynn, Korx, and 2 minor races. I set the game to start with me having already met the Altarian Resistance, Arcean Empire, Torian Confederation, and Drengin Empire.
So I start out on New Altaria, Class 10, at the top of the galaxy. I have 300% Manufacturing Bonus, 100% Food Bonus, and 700% Research Bonus tiles on my home world. I manually send my ships around. And dang it, I forget to check the Galaxy Map for who's my neighbor. But no problem.
I buy a Basic Factory on the bonus tile and queue up a Basic Lab and a Market Center. I send my Flagship towards the nearest star which has planets around it to check for habitable planets. I send my Colony Ship towards Class 4 New Altaria 2. And I just point my Space Miner manually at the closest asteroid and it disappears into the rock.
Next turn, the Colony ship arrives at New Altaria 2, which I rename Nuova Wisp. I buy a Basic Factory and queue up 2 Basic Labs on the planet. I also queued up stuff on all of New Altaria's tiles, seeing that it doesn't cost anything to do so. Then I hit a bug. My Flagship, having just moved 1 parsec, stopped and showed Moves Left: 0/1. I checked the Intelligence Report and it should have been moving 3pc/wk. I saved, exited, and relaunched the game. It was fine now, the problem was suddenly fixed. It now showed Moves Left: 0/3. So I lost to moves that turn, but the Flagship was moving at normal speed next turn.

When the Flagship finally arrived at the border, I found the Arceans had taken the one and only habitable non-home-system planet in this half of the galaxy, Hammer 2. Now I checked the Galaxy Map to see that I was directly next to the Arceans, some distance North-East to the Resistance, North-West to the Terrans. I was North of some unknown grey race but with a good bit of empty space in between. I suspect it's the Korath, but I don't know yet.
So I built stuff on my worlds, keeping Approval at 100% to get more population whenever I thought I needed some. Whenever I thought I was in too much deficit spending or I didn't need more pop at the moment, I turned up taxes so that my approval dropped to 21 or 22%, but never below that. I also kept production going at 100% since in this galaxy, colony rush is non-existant. Periodically checking the graphs, I saw that whenever I turned up one type of production to over 50%, it spiked and blew clean off the charts. I was top researcher, top in social production, had the best economy, most popular, and had the most population until the Resistance pulled ahead. I also researched Spore Weapons early since it only took 3 turns to do so. To my surprise, I got Toxic Atmosphere Reductors and Advanced Toxic Atmosphere Reductors free with the deal. I also began construction of Diplomatic Translators, the trade good, which I haven't finished yet.
This way, February and March passed by building up and researching. April came and I only realized it when the tech robot gave me a Quarterly Review.
Now I started tech trading. I hadn't met anyone except for those I had set the game to start with me knowing. My Diplomacy rating was second only to the Arceans, and even though the Altarians had lower Diplomacy than me, they kept accepting only outrageous deals that I wouldn't give. The Torians though, were better. I managed to get Xeno Industrial Theory and Planetary Improvements out of them for Xeno Communications and some money. I checked the Diplomacy graphs and it turns out that the Drengin had no Diplomatic Ability at all. They were on the floor of the graph, just waiting to be exploited. So I did exploit them, and managed to get a weapon and some money for a rather useless tech:

Nobody had started to militarize yet, it was too early. Only the Drengin, as far as I knew, had researched past Space Militarization. And I took their one and only weapon. Now, I have the option to militarize. I'd already created a Spore Ship design of my own but never built one. I also designed a 1-hp fighter with the Drengin tech, which is perfect for ravaging unarmed AI races:

The problem is, although it would be nice to have an early advantage with extra worlds, who to conquer?
The Arceans are going to become my trade partners since they're the closest, so not them. And besides, I've already sent a Freighter towards Hammer 2. I've sent my Flagship on a tedious journey to meet the Terrans and analyze if they're in a position to militarize anytime soon. I've had New Altaria suspend the construction of Freighters and instead build a Thorn and I will later build a pair of Basic Spore Bombers, which is enough military to kill off any other race I know, at least until they militarize too.
Meanwhile, the AI hasn't realized that their is no colony rush in this game: I've seen trade screens in which AIs have built lots & lots of Scouts. But why? There are no planets to take, can't they see? And the Drengin have even built an extra 3 Colony ships! Also, the Terrans are starting to become an influence threat. Although I haven't seen it, I suspect that they have built an Influence Starbase in that space between me and the unknown grey race. It was also due to the Terrans that I encountered my first AI ships: a pair of small-hulled Scouts in a fleet, both with different visual styles but the exact same performance. What a waste of 96 bc! Thanks to my Flagship having better sensors, they haven't seen me.

If I can use my Flagship to find a path between the Terran Scouts, then I can send in my Thorn fighter and launch a surprise attack on the Terrans. As it is, I'm going to have more powerful missiles by the time they can militarize, so I look to capture Earth and Mars sometime in 2226 provided my economy can keep up(I hope the Terrans don't militarize soon or the price of attacking them will spike). Impulse Drive is going to be necessary for this.
Well, that's all for today. Any suggestions?
