Even though it isn't officially released for North America yet, hundreds of PSP owners have updated their firmware to find the ability to customize the icons, background and UI, of their beloved portable console. Only two official themes have been released on the Japanese Playstation site, but a translation reveals their are many more to come, along with Sony possibly releasing software to create your own later this month.

I saw a note about this over on UncleGamer.com. I'm mildly interested, but then again I barely touch my PSP any more.

I am very interested in the version of the PSP that is supposed to be coming that will reportedly have the option to send output to your TV.  That is something that I think Sony screwed up on royally in the initial release of the device and in their pushing of the UMD format for movies.  They should have come out with a player that would take UMD discs and output to TV very soon after they released the PSP and/or they should have made sure that the PSP could be hooked to TVs so that people that bought UMDs wouldn't feel ripped off at the thought of buying UMDs *and* DVDs of the same films just so they could watch the film in either format.

Of course Sony has never been great at getting their media format creations to really latch on in the market place (and I'm somewhat hopeful that they continue their streak of failures with the Blu-ray format since I still find the HD-DVD format to be more consumer friendly at this point).

streak of failures with blu-ray?? blu-ray is out selling HD-DVD 2:1 worldwide and has more industry support lol. not to mention blu ray beats out hd-dvd in nearly every way lol. but to the point yes I agree with you about the UMD, the PSP slim has video output among other things, I'm buying one soon.
