well IQ does measure something, but its not a decypherable piece of the brain that we know of yet, it certainly isnt all there is to intelligence.
either way the point remains that people who do drugs do get messed up, although in most cases the how, why and for how long depends on your toxin.

Now, the only proven research is that drugs such as cocaine and LSD could damage the neurochemical receptors, but that is also non permanent
some cocaine and LSD users do suffer long term effects, even brain damage and comas, I dont see how that sort of severe damage cannot be considered "permanent".
then again, I have to agree that we dont have great long-term data for druggies who have quit.
