Thats not proven research. That is an asumption neurologists make based on brain degeneration later in life. They assume alcohol could be a factor. They cant study derect impacts like that for the pure reason that it might be dangerous to the test subjects.

And most the research that is out there comes from the same poeple that try to say drugs screw you up permentaly, when in fact its just a scare tactic.

Often times the subject in questions chooses to act stupid based on the common assumption that brain damage occurs from drugs. Now, the only proven research is that drugs such as cocaine and LSD could damage the neurochemical receptors, but that is also non permanent. And also we are discussing brain affects, not deaths. I never said drugs were not damaging to health, of course they are, just like alcohol is also damaging to health.

Thats what I am saying current research on illegal drugs is very limited, and the government wants to make sure that use of them stays low because there are related health problems, not necessarily brain ones though. So they support the half baked theories of some reasearch who based their results with a biased predesposition and most likely an equally biased test sample.

The only thing psychologists and neurologists agree on though is that cocaine and LSD flood the brain with so much endorphins that it overloads the neural receptors and in essence makes them 'die'. Which makes the user experience less happiness and have a more depressed attitued because the next time endorphins are released there are less receptors so the nerves fire less to the parts of the brain that makes us feel happiness. However, there is also research that shows an improvement in the level of attitude after quiting, though that can also be argued.

No, but they dont get a fully representative sample. The people who usually end up in the test sample usually already have health problems and a low intellectual level.

If alcohol damages brain development, then why aren't nations with lower drinking ages stupider? Furthermore, while I don't have any studies to back me up that I know of, I haven't noticed people who abstained from drinking alcohol (myself included) are any more mentally stable or intellegent. Besides, I might point out that joining the military during a war has a nery significant potential negative impact on a person's health and we still allow 18 year olds to join the military whether a war is on or not.

and its the excessive drinkers who get immediate effects. people who only drink lightly will be effected plenty, its just not, well, immediate.
