Need Help

Help ! New user - Harddisk crash - I am now unable to get the Vista Version of program - I know it is something I am doing wrong. I still need solution. - Will someone help, please. I have version 1.5 installed as of this time. SEADOG8278

What exactly do you mean? There's only the one version of the game that runs on both XP and Vista--the biggest worry with Vista is having updated video drivers.

When I first loaded the program, the desktop icon was blank. After a short time, I learned that I could go on-line and update the program. I followed my friends instructions and the program updated to another version. After that the Icon had the word VISTA below it. Being a new user, I assumed that the program had been modified to work with Vista. To my amasement the pesky little glitches I had been experiencing no longer presented themselves. After the crash, my fault I'm sure, I reloaded the program, and as expected all of the glitches reappeared. Not unexpected !! So, I find myself trying to recreate whatever I did to get the update to fix my problem. Hopefully, I have explained myself clearly. What can you expect from an old mechanic, having his first game experience. SEADOG8278

Well, if you have only Dread Lords (not DA or GC2 Gold), 1.5 is already the latest. If you're having some specific issues though, please describe them.

Also, please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. If this is a DA report, you'll find the debug in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar instead. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

Note: If running on Vista with DA 1.6b2 or later, the debug.err is now located in My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar.

Thanks - I'll attempt:


1st: Stardock allows me to log on automatically - Normal
***: At all other points - it gives message - user and password don't match ?
***: I was able to get program to send me my account info E-mail - Cut/paste - again
#'s - don't match registration.
***: Pooking here pooking there, I find I have two completely different Registration
#'s - A: starts 4E31F - - B: starts 7C27A - - CD = 4E31F ?

2nd: Program Issues: Ships hang in orbit on some worlds - or some ships launch - some don't - no pattern.

3rd: Ships vanish - never to be seen again - they still cost and it can add up quick.

4th: Governor - at times redirects traffic without imput - even if function hasn't been used during this game cycle.

5th: Galatic Achievements - unusable - search/search/search - no change within environment - ships/worlds etc.

6th: Inner program confusion - AI - you are at war - other screens - at peace - with same race - SIDE NOTE - It really chaps my rear - when one opponent is racking my coals and the AI says I can't defend - AI - Alliance

Note: being new - having ZERO game experience - this may just be developement glitches.

If you're having an account issue, then you should contact [email protected] can sort that out.

Serials you get in the email may not match the ones you've used previously--this is normal, and they *should* be treated as the same in the system.

From some of the in-game issues you describe it sounds like you might not actually be up to date on patches after all, though some of them seem to just be confusion or new issues. In any case, one thing at a time--lets get you fixed up on SDC and make sure you're up to date, then we can address those things if they're still there.
