sounds like the government since i was born over 40 years ago

The Bush administration and the GOP Controlled Congress from Jan 2001 to January 2007 has been the most financially irresponsible Federal Government we have EVER had in this country. They were far worse then any of the so called Free Spending Liberals! They not only outspent the Liberals but borrowed it so we also have the interest to pay in addition to the spending!

What a waste of an article. Keep blaming the Republicans Mr Conservative while giving the Democrats a free ride. It's amnazing, this country is a disaster because of no one else but the Republicans. If you are a conservative as you claim to be, you are just as if not more responsible for all of this if what you say is true.

The $4 Trillion dollars that has been added to the debt and the $200 Billion more in interest we must pay every year is because of Bush and the GOP NOT the Democrats!Facts are facts even though you may not like them!!!!!

Who cares, who cares, who cares, who cares. No one ever pays what they owe us, chances are we probably won't pay this to who ever we owe it. This is all bull, Debt has never done damage to us before it won't now. Get over it already.

No I am anti spending on something that was unneeded and provides NOTHING toward our current needs. That interest pays for the PAST when Bush and the GOP wanted to spend MORE then they were willing to TAX!!!!!

No one cares Col. If people actually cared they would have done something about it. Cry all you want, this debt will eventually go away somehow, people will pay more taxes today and less tomorrow and this will repeat itself with every change of administration. Yet here we are, we still exist, we are still the most powerful country in the world. Though we have China stepping on our heals they need us as much as we need them.

You're the biggest baby I have ever seen Let me know when you start looking at the big picture in this country, or the world for that matter. Then we can talk some more.

Everyone cares about paying taxes. They just do not realize that ONE out of EVERY SIX dollars they pay in income taxes goes to interest on the debt. When the money we are paying in interest is needed to help Social Security and Medicare they will care! The failure is that our leaders should care about the long term financial health of our country. They do NOT!

That interest does nothing to meet the needs of our country. It does not pay one person in our military. It does not help one college student get an education. It does not pay one border guard. yes but the democrats don't want to tax more and pay off debt. they want to tax more so they can spend more.


and that is where the problem is.

as i said if i was president.

the only thing i would pay until payed off was the debt. and any absolute things that needed to be payed. but congresses pay, and mine would be gone.

The first step is to STOP adding to the deficit by balancing the budget. Then we must begin generating a REAL SURPLUS that is applied to paying down the debt. Any new spending must be paid by added revenue or cuts in other areas. If we are not willing to pay for new spending then we should not add new programs that require added money. However, Bush and the GOP is not willing to tax enough to pay for what we are currently spending without any new programs! For example the Iraq war cost.

Believe what you want Col. Reality is reality and there's nothing you can do to change it.

You are correct. I accept reality but Bush and most that still support him live in a world so far from reality it is hard to believe we are all on the same planet.

I think all liberals should have their taxes increased by 400% the very very rich liberals should have to pay 98% of all the money the have now, will ever have, will ever think about having. There you go end of problem.

For example, you live in a reality world where you think you accept reality, but only you would believe that 70,000 bridges can be fixed with a single highway and transit bill and can be fixed over night. Only you in your reality believes that an infrastructure like the steam pipeline of New York can be fixed when in reality it would bring the city that never sleeps to a halt and millions of dollars will be lost replacing the system due to all the streets taht will need to be shut down while the city breaks the roads to reach thes epipes that in many places can be as far as 150 feet down. Even replacing them with new pipes is unrealistic.

and even if you could some of them will break

Perfect example of someone that will not accept reality nor who wants to resolve the issues facing America. The Editorial Cartoon today in the Philadelphia Inquirer shows Bush under a bridge that is falling down on him and he is saying, "NO NEW TAXES".

They can not be repaired or replaced when there is NO support to pay the cost as Bush shows. In many cases old bridges must be replaced not just given new paint or decking. In some cases they must be expanded to deal with the ever increasing traffic. All that makes the cost high and without a LOT of added funding given the cost of steel, concrete and other costs, we have NO chance to deal with the magnitude of the problem. Then add the Dams, Water/Sewer systems Electric Grid and Rail Road infrastructure and the cost is a colossal problem! Another issue like Social Security and Medicare. ALL without added revenue. WHAT BS!!!!!!!

ok so the bridge that fell down isn't going to be replaced. now that we all know that we can find alternate routes if we want to go that way.

Given the congestion on all the roads where I live, I doubt it. That is not the answer. In fact we not only will need to replace many of the older bridges but because of the increased volume of cars, the replacement bridges will need to be larger! That will add even MORE to the cost.

In Sanibel, FL the ONLY Bridge was falling into the Gulf. There was NO choice and the new and larger bridge has just been completed but they waited until chunks of concrete began falling off the bridge and it was unsafe.

well as you keep saying if bush doesn't raise the gas tax then the bridge that just fell will not be fixed.


of course the only reason the democrats want more money is so they can spend it on pork. which is what they are doing with the money currently marked to go and fix bridges.

and the city of Minneapolis is using the money it has received before this collapse, to fix bridges, to build a new stadium. the money for the stadium is enough to build the bridge.

but we need higher taxes.
