Multiplayer

Multiplayer

Don't buy the "no multiplayer needed" argument

Come on - get real.

GalCiv2 is a great game, no doubt about it. I feel like I got my money's worth. Congrats.

Now - where's the multiplayer? This is not 1994 anymore people.

This is 2010. Well, almost. 2007 Quarter three.

Quit making excuses. No one is asking Stardock to host a mp infrastructure - use Gamespy for that. Just add mp into the game.

My brother lives in Las Vegas, I live in Illinois. We want to go head-to-head.

Can you have this done by next week? I've got vacation days coming I want to use.

Let me know.

I would prefer a non online multi player, so that you only play fiends via IP - IP. That way balancing issues can be ignored, and the length of the game would not be such an issue, and the waiting time between turn not such an ussue. It would mean a text chat section be added to the game

These would ensure that the single player game is not affected in any way, and reduce the amount of work to implement it.

No servers, as te players would host the games themselved etc.

Wow, you couldn't just let this thread rest in peace?  x_x    GAl Civ 2 will not ever have multiplayer.

OMG my last reply to this was in August of 2007,,, and here it is in the recent threads list. lol

Lets see...  should this be redirected to Mumblefratz's  Dead Horse thread or his Thread Necromancing thread?

While I'm here can we talk about orbital bombardment and carriers?

There's only 1 way multiplayer makes sense in a game like this: Head to head only and based on file swapping. It would be like playing long distance chess. I set up a game with a buddy on the other side of the world. Whoever goes first would end his turn and an export file is created. This file is emailed (or whatever) to the friend who imports it, then takes his turn. Wash, rinse, repeat. Actually now that I think about it, that would probably really suck. Nevermind.

It's a very old and tired topic.  GC3 *might* have multiplayer only because the devs probably got sick and tired of hearing about it.  They'll probably stick it in there in some form just to avoid the never ending grief they got about it in GC2.

SOMETHING just to shut them up. I hope it doesn't interfer with the single player experience because I'll never use multiplayer.

I'm not big on multi-player either.  I don't think I would have in interest in playing a game like GC2 online, but there have been games where I've enjoyed it.  Most multi-player games are really best suited for LAN parties with your freinds.  Too often, playing online with the public results in a bad experience.
