Modding the Tech Question.

I was wondering how to modify the tech tree to remove Insurgency, or at least make it so that if you research it, nothing happens.

My problem with Insurgency is that once you or a comp gets it, then as long as you can defend yourself, you win, all the computers die from the maurading pirates.

So I was hoping maybe we could modify the tech tree so there is no more Insurgency, so you can play without pirates at all or maybe you could modify the Insurgency tech so there are only very few pirates so that planetary defenses have a chance of killing them without needing to rely on other ships.

Solution: Wait for the improved AI!

The devs are tweaking a lot of things in the next build (due out "soon") which I believe includes either insurgency or pirates in general.

GameInfo/RESEARCHSUBJECT_REBELLION.entity

Look for the line tagged "MaxNumResearchLevels". Change the "2" to a "0". Done.

You may have to start a new game for the changed value to be picked up.

Well, I was able to manage it another way. I simply changed the cost for the first level of research to need 550,000 crystal. Considering the comps usually stay around a very low level they should never get enough, besides, I dont think a game would last long enough for someone to even stockpile that much.

Don't be so sure of that. Don't be so sure at all... once you've captured an entire starsystem, and start turning it into an economic center, you get a truly amazing amount of resources -- especially when it has no less than three ice worlds in it (ice worlds = 3 crystal mines).

Hmm, well if I was ever going to play with someone who I knew I couldnt trust to not get the tech, then I would just put the price for everything up to a few billion.

Yeah, that'd work in PvP Any player that gets that far ahead in resourced has already won.

Again, why fiddle with costs which may or may not be enough (depending on your specific galaxy and opponents), when you can simply disable it entirely as I've described?

Because this way, when you REALLY get tired of the game because the AI is just being stupid, you can go ahead and leave it running overnight and have the resources you need to win.
