Battlefleet Gothic

I don't know if any of you guys are a fan of the mini's genera. Did anyone here ever play games workshops short lived Battlefleet Gothic.

That game was pretty fun.

Some of the stuff I liked from there.

1. Massive torpedoes

Were talking about ship killers that you had to move the ship out of the way from and could use to move other guys ships out of areas that you wanted to go into.

2. Boarding action

You could fire "boarding torpedoes" and basically take over a ship or failing at that sabotage large sections of it.

3. Ramming / Fire Ships

Some ships could ram it was pretty sweet some could also function like a big torpedo.... that was awesome.

4. The ships had sections you could knock out an engine ... that was pretty cool.

5. Ships could really blow up

As in they would implode and take down anyone who happened to be near them that was pretty awesome.

6. Some ships as i recall could use gravitic and solar wind effects

I was immediately reminded me of Battlefleet Ghotic designs when I first saw the TEC Kol in game.

This subject belongs in the modding area.

The Warhammer 40k universe could probably be modded into sins (once the mod tools come out). There is a BFG mod for HW2 though i doubt it will ever be finished. Same for Dawn of War (yes someone is trying to do a BFG mod for DoW). Every gothic mod i have seen so far is in its alpha stage with nice pretty screens of some imported models, but no sign that they will ever be finished.

To answer your question no i have not actually played BFG, but i did read the rules, and fluff regarding it. I do think there would be a high interest in a BFG mod for Sins. The question is who would do it? and would it be finished?

This certainly does not belong in modding.

I have very little interest in a BG mod. What i would like to see is if FEATURES of the game integrated into SINS.

Especially the boarding stuff and ship killer torps.

Yea! boarding ships would be a GREAT addition.

Gentlemen,

Moo2 had assault shuttles that were alot of fun. These could be used to board an enemy ship to attempt to takeover or damage the ship. They were an alternative to fighters and in SOASE could be brought to battle by carriers or be used by a planetary defense hangar.

If successful the boarding party could damgage the ship or take it over, or it could be scuttled by its own crew and explode. If successfully taken over it could be scrapped or perhaps become part of the winner's fleet after the battle.

It would make for the best radio chatter!

Darker, 1st ill apologize for hijacking your thread. I believe the subject does belong here. I do understand the points you are trying to make, and i agree that those would be some cool features for Sins. However you are underestimating the talent that is watching this game, and waiting for its release. You may have no interest in a BFG mod, but there are some that do.

As i said before there are other BFG mods out there that look like they are stalled for whatever reason. I believe the games they are modding just dont suite Gothic. HW2 being the closest one, but HW2 a major pain to do any kind of modding with. Dawn of War ranks right up there with HW2 with difficulty in modding. Plus its a ground based RTS that the gothic team is trying to make a space based mod for. Sins IMO will be as easy to mod as Homeworld 1 was. Plus 90% of the work is already done. All a Gothic mod needs is the ships. The Sins modding tools. Plus those cool features you mentioned above

My opinion is that this game modded by a bunch of semi-pro's to look like BFG would probably be about as fun as this game modded to look like star trek or battlestar galactica. It would just be freaking cosmetic.

In my experience with stardock, that being galactic civ II, I found the game very hard to mod for outside cosmetics and already established values --- meaning that witting boarding code or making a mobile planet or any of the other really interesting things that would give a mod flavor would be unlikely to happen without serious developer interest.

What I am suggesting is that these features I have mentioned are generic space combat game features that this game should not be without. The one I would most love to see though would be boarding. Everyone love to see a good boarding also I wouldn't mind seeing planetary invasion - everyone loves a good invasion.

Can you imagine how cool it would be seeing a "boarding vessel" fire off "marine pods" and watch as a large battleship ends up turning its guns back on its own guys. Or maybe just an easily destroyable pod carrying demolitions experts that can if unmolested take down a cap ship or disable a cap ship. It would be hot!

I couldn't agree with you more

This game is not GC2, and i have done some GC2 modding (model importing). I think we can do a little more than just minor cosmetic changes from what i have seen of the scripting (at least i hope we can). Still that is no substitute for features added by the developers themselves. I have seen boarding craft request, and suggestions in the beta feedback section. We will just have to wait and see if they are implemented.

Well the only real factor i didn't like of galactic civ 2 was the fact that I couldn't control my ships in combat and pull off sneaky tricks. It was just all done by math --- boo math.

I miss being able to board, shoot down incoming missiles, disable ships. All which were present in that great game MOO2 which I'm not saying should be cloned but def. should be looked at.

Another option of course is to completely copy G-civ 2 and just make a fleet and let it go then just do math when two fleets meet but I guess that would somewhat negate the "thrill" of micromanagement.

a copy would not be as enjoyable, i like the way the game is set up, but i do think that in large battles that the rest of the world goes away whilist u raze the otherside into spacedust

i did like the idea of ship decay though.

hey there peeps, just been told by one of my mod team about this game, and ive been looking through vids and screenshots and it all looks very impressive.

im currently running a BFG mod for supreme commander, here our moddb: http://mods.moddb.com/8835/gothic-commander/

if this game plays well and gets sufficient mod tools we may switch to this game,

just a note that we havent updated recently due to family issues on my end and uni comming up for myself and a few others, expect more content soon.

Extremely impressive models and skins there, I noticed you’re just using the ModDB forums. Would be interested in getting hosted at Slipstream Productions, a small modding network?

thanks for the offer and comments but ill have to decline, hardly anyone uses the forums anyway, and i think a forum is a form, there all the same, i could even host my own on my webspace but meh... lol

myself and 1 other builds the models and we have a very very good texture artist

well i have been thinking about making some BFG for homeworld but i recon that this game would pull it off better so im going to talk to the one other guy in my team and see what he thinks if he says yes then im going to start finding my way around the code... what mod tools have IC promised?
BFG for this would be awesome, how would one do the boarding? Aside: Vasari already look like eldar, and the TEC do look like Imperials IMO.

Map editor, and the tools to create models. More than that probably exists, but we don't know about it.
a map editor? they already said that it wont have any AI scripts or anything like that so scenarios are out. Also we already have code herders model import tool unless you mean anything else.

They're going to release OFFICIAL tools. Including a map editor, model editor (well, actually, "some way" to get models into the game -- might just be a converter or something), and they haven't released what else.

LOL!!!! WHERE'S KIERNYC!!!!! He has a huge Tau army and now hes getting Tau BFG models for Christmas (I myself am getting IN soon).

EDIT: Does anybody know if the rule book or the other book has all the ships? The right ships? Looking at the downloadable ones it has models that aren't there and models that are on the store aren't in there!

Oh and this sucks for Americans. The store for us only has 2 adaptus machanicus ships (2 cruisers) and the British store has a Battleship! (:(
