My first WB skin

I am not an artist. I am a software engineer. After downloading dozens of skins from WinCustomize, I wanted to do something for the community. I have been working on this skin for a few months now. I just completed task bar, start panel and start menu programs. I have a long way to go. Hopefully I will complete my skin before next version of Windows is out.

Here is how the skin looks as of today.

I like it so far, very good for a first time. I must tell you that I haven't done a WB skin before, rather my first skinning attempt was yesterday with a "MysticSteel" Xion Theme. So far it looks good!

Good Luck !

Thank you kittymalone and REDstyler.

Welcome, James. And thank you for contributing. I know how many many hours go into creating a skin and how daunting it can be to get that first one "just right" enough to publish. Keep them coming. It's a great hobby... if you don't count the divorces, hehe.

Looking pretty good there for your first attempt.. My advice would be to try and be as original as possible, drink plenty of coffee and do your best to avoid deep vein thrombosis

Nice name REDstyler

Thanks everyone.

I have changed the images quite a bit to get here. So far I like this hobby. Paint.NET is a bit primitive tool though. I have tried Photoshop CS2 trial but was intimidating. I want to give it another try if I learn enough to express my ideas.

WWW Link is a great site for learning PS.

vStyler, there are some really cool tutorials there. Now that I have PS CS3, I should start learning.

I decided to stick with Paint.NET for this skin though.

I wasn't doing anything with the skin for about a month. I was playing Gears of War in Insane difficulty. Finished last weekend. Now back to more skinning until Halo 3.

Here is how my skin looks now.

Then today when I was looking through new forum entries, I found this post about black and green skins.

Look at the skin Intoxik8ed by Night Train. The green buttons are almost the same. I may go ahead and finish the the skin, but I no longer plan to publish it.

Once I am done with this, I will start on something else and hopefully, as vStyler said, "original".

Thanks Fuzzy Logic.

I will try to get permission from Night Train.

By the way your comment about lighting on another post threw me off. I had no idea about the importance of consistent lighting effects on all elements   I am working on it. You probably had no idea that how many people benefit from such comments.

Fuzzy has a way of pointing out things that us new guys wouldn't notice.... and he's so nice too!

I belive the comment you refer too was on one of my blinds

I learned from the best (Zubaz)

To be fair, I'm on a strange computer and don't have the use of my firefox spell-checker!

Did you make the buttons on your own? I am figuring so besause of your first pic shown of the skin.

Anything you make on your own and do not copy you do not need permission to use. Same colors is all. It is wise of you to be conscious of the thought though.

Keep up the good work and enjoy yourself along the way. Looking forward to seeing your first work completed.

Yes, I did.

Thanks for letting me know.

Looking forward to seeing your first work completed.

I would love to get some feedback on the current state. I do not want to upload to WC until it is completed though. I am hoping to upload it somewhere and post a link here.

There are some bugs in the skin that I don't understand are bothering me. I can better explain it when I have the skin uploaded.

There are some really helpfull people here. Maybe someone would test your blind for you. I'd offer, but I think maybe someone with more experience would be more suited.

Stay with it, James - looking good.

The skin is nowhere close to completion but I could get it to a temporary location to test.

WWW Link

If you download and test it, please let me know what you think and what mistakes I am making. I have noticed a few bugs like white shadows instead of blue shadows on programs menu.

The link may be slow at times depending on whether I am playing games or not

Keep up the great job. Lots of great feedback here. You folks are wonderful for helping the new skinner get his feet wet

I received a lot of help from the community here to get this skin working. Thank you all.

I think I am at a stage where I need some feedback on how I am doing with the skin. I have the WBA file uploaded here. WWW Link

Elements that are not done:
- Toolbar icons (I need more experience to do icons)
- Shell animations

There are few issues I am not able to resolve:
- Cannot get the titlebar to appear in the WB skin list.
- At times more programs menu background shows a white border.

Radio buttons are not smooth.
