Great,I am going to mod it like a true 4X game with loads of stars with a few planets each.

Sparta!

Sorry... someone had to do it.

Anyway... that looks like it would take AGES to play. Just think of the travel time between systems - multiplied over 100 systems. Can you say "boring?"

That is awesome! Nice job Multi!

*evil eyes* yet you are still my ENEMY!!!

oh wow !!!

You call that madness, I call that pure beauty

Hum, I'm kinda surprise you can do that though, and I don't think we can really play it even if we want to. If it doesn't crash right out of the patch the load it put on the engine later will probably do, or maybe Ironclad did build a very stable engine

I can see my house from here!

Still, way to got, and Ashberry, good luck with the mod, and good luck playing it, as Omicron1 said, I think t'would be a tad dull.

A game like Ashberry suggests would need better system connectivity, as planet connectivity wouldn't matter as much.

Zoomed in to planet view, it was running at 50fps, and total zoomed out 17fps, on a 8800GTX
I guess, its gonna be a few years before we can play something like that haha.

Theres only 20 planets, so it means, alot of those stars dont got planets.

I would be willing to play that with 20 planets per star...

and yes, the game might seem boring for hte first month or so, but after the AI has taken over the other 3/4 of the universe it would get VERY interesting... (although granted the WHOLE game would be creating units instead of doing anything else)

the game would be more about creating and moving series of armadas around than little fleets.

You would play a 2000 planet game? haha gonna take "some" time haha.

"some" time is an understatement, still if the speed from star to star is sped up, thenj that would make that sized game a lot more, of course there are still phase gates to be added, so there is a lot of room for improvement

this brings up an important point: all of the stars are connected to the center galaxy, test this for me multi, you would have to jump all the way from an outer star to the center star and back to get to the adjacent galaxy. that cannot happen, stars need to be open for phasing.

additionally I dont like the bullseye design. its not too cool.

the AI would have to automatically create my fleets and upgrade my planets, but yes I would.

At that scale the whole game would feel like a single player MMO.

I think the game would work with a variable of max 15 stars and a max of 100 planets. Randomness could be controlled to no fewer than 3 planets per star and no more that 8 or something like that. Other than that the travel time would really need to be increases for a map like that.

What are the files that control all these variables, because I would like to mess with all this myself?

I hope they keep the present lengthy time between stars intact. It would cheapen the epic feel of the game if you could get from one star to the next in 10 seconds.
I think they will keep it. Might be tweaked abit, but the epic feel will stay, im sure about that

<3 epic-ness

Man that actually looks like a galaxy.

Big applause goes to Multi for the greatest screenshots ever

It does raise two problems with the game on how it stands.

#1) The spiral problem does pose an unrealistic aproach to the ordered chaos of space as well as the aformentioned central galaxy, both already said by schematicninja

#2) Every game I play, doesn't matter how many players there are, I'm always in the center galaxy. Always. Tactically this is ideal, but also not realistic either.

I'm also stuck with most, if not all, the ai players here. It would be interesting if we each got our own star to conqure first before moving out to take over the other players.

The patch notes list a lot of changes that fix these problems and more.
