Battle "Sandbox" Mode

I think I understand the reasons why Multiplayer was not included in Gal Civ 2, and I agree that it would probably not be worth the time and effort. However, the main feature of Multiplayer I miss having is the ability to stage battles between 2 human players. I think it would be neat if a mode could be added where a person had access to all the technologies and could watch a battle between ships he/she created. I find the battles very fun to watch, but unfortunately most of the time I end up watching pretty small scale battles and think it would be fun to be able to watch huge battles take place.

I'm not certain how long it would take to add a feature like that to Gal Civ 2, but since the algorithms for the battle have already been made, and there is already a ship editor, it seems like it shouldn't be too hard.

There has been some discussion of multi-player. I think there's a thread about the case for no multiplayer (sticky).

Seems there is some desire for something like that ... shameless plug for the new League idea proposed by ghostwes. Suggestion for a metaverse "league"

If you like to watch battles you might be interested in AAR's. There's a forum for those too.

... check it out

I'm not talking about adding multiplayer. I'm wondering about whether or not it would be possible to have a way to set up a battle between two fleets you can create specifically for the battle. Basically, an option/mdoe that is just designing battles that you can watch.

I would like that too. All options open to both sides, that way we could really test and see how the battle calculations work (and watch the pretty fireworks!). It would be really cool - I don't usually see large enemy fleets because I don't give them time to assemble

I would be surprised if the devs don't already have a basic verison of this done already - they had to test the combat code with something, right?

Perhaps even up the max logistics values so we could end up with truly huge battles (100s of fighters etc). There'd need to be some kind of disclaimer first tho, just in case anyone managed to melt their video cards

Think Kryo's Fleet sim, writ large.
