A few suggestions about planets

Hi,

I'm new to the game and there were a few things that struck me as i played the game. I don't know if it has been suggested before, but i didn't find anything with a quick search.

The first idea is that it might be cool if planets were a bit more diversified. By that i mean that they could have different atmosphere, for example, oxygen, CO2, hydrogen and so on, along with the type of planet they are, like radioactive, aquatic and so on. I guess a game that has something like that is Space Empire V. I think it would be more fun to explore.

The second idea is that if races had a favored planet type/atmosphere, it would also diversify things a bit more. Different planets will have different values for each race. Some race would have penalties on a planet, while another race would have a bonus.

The third idea has to do with population. In a lot of other games of this type, you had the choice to exterminate or enslave the population of planets you invaded. The difference is that if you captured a planet, the population of the planet would be of the race it belonged to.
Maybe it could be interesting if instead of just a population number that you have in galciv2, you had the race also. Then you could interact with them, like sending them off to other planets of your choice and i'm sure more ideas could be found.
One advantage was that if previous suggestions were implemented, you could use them to colonize planet types that fit them, negating penalties your own race would have. There would have to be restrictions so it doesn't get overpowering, perhaps having more races enslaved = harder to control by have a big morale penalty or some other restrictions.
There is mention of enslaving races from the evil races, perhaps this could be the way it is represented in the game.

Dark Avatar does already have exactly those two, and more, for special planet types (in addition to standard terran-type planets).

I think OP meant adding another planet diversity feature besides different environment types (toxic, barren, etc) known from DA. Different atmosphere (or whatever you name it) types whose bonuses/penalties cannot be changed by discovering appropriate techs, but depend only on race (or another fixed parameter).

I think ReaperSpirit meant different atmosphere types in addition to the existing planet types. Although in my own way of thinking, those planets with atmospheres other than oxygen DO exist, they are simply uninhabitable.
The "favored planet type" idea is kind of cool...like if the Yor could take full advantage of radioactive worlds (or barren ones, since they already have an advantage there) or the Iconians got extra bonus tiles on aquatic planets. This shouldn't be overwhelming, just a little something to try and shoot for.
The third point is a little like what Civ IV does, calculating the percentage of ethnic/cultural makeup of a city. This would be almost entirely aesthetic, having little impact on gameplay, except perhaps regarding research, as the OP hinted at.

Its a MOO2 feature, which does affect gameplay in that game.

The race advantages per planet type also echoes some features of MOO2 race customization.

There simply is (d*** near) nothing new under the sun...er...stars...er...suns.

These suggestions were in some game, i just tried to get some i liked and mix and match. I think GalCiv2 is a great game, but exploring planets were a bit bland, either it was class 0, or class x, took some fun out of exploring.

For the first idea, i meant another parameter, on top of what we have, so it would create a lot of combinations possible for planets. Perhaps this could make it so there is less unhabitable planets, just different so your race might not take advantage of that planet, but someone else could. Another possibility would be that if the atmosphere is not what your race favors, you could live in domes, reducing the amount of squares you can use off that planet.

For the third idea, i meant that lets say you have citizens from another race under your empire in some planets, perhaps you could have some of their races bonuses. For example, if their race gets a bonus to economics, then you would get some for the amount of citizen there is. As for the planet idea linked to this, i meant that say your empire breathes oxygen, but that race you conquered breathes CO2, you could use them to colonize CO2 planets without the penalty your own race would have.

To not allow this to be overpowering, perhaps the more race you have, the harder is it to keep the population happy perhaps, the reasoning could be xenophobia for example. Perhaps some research could lower the penalty. It would then be a strategic choice to either use extra races with a penalty, but hoping their bonuses makes up for it, or you dont use them because you judge that it wouldnt make up for the penalty.

I think it is just a way to enjoy the spoils of conquering other races. Other restraints could be figured, for example, maybe you can only make use of other races if you are the one wiping their last planet, or if they surrendered to you.
