Sword of the stars expansion - born of blood

Anybody tried it?

Hello all, has anyone played the SOTS expansion and if so is it any good in your opinion?

I enjoyed the original game for a short period and am wondering whether this expansion significantly improves it.

Is it released now? Last time I checked it was delayed. Again.

If it's out, I should get it shortly.

I thought 50 vs 30 ship battles and it gets slow because of all the shots being fired :/ Small is good enough. I wish bigger was faster heh but u can't help it.

3d maps are awesome. Sphere is a classic, ring is good. Not a fan of Hollow Sphere :/

I have the expansion and think it is excellent. It adds a slew of features to the game. Check out http://sots.rorschach.net/Category:Born_of_Blood (SOTS wiki).

Can you get the expansion via Stardock, or do you have to get the Collectors edition sold in stores.

I checked their forums and they said Born of Blood hasn't been released for retail in Canada or the US, so I'm wondering if the Stardock version has it built in or if need to buy the collectors in a Store.

It looks to me like not realeased in the U.S. and Canada means exactly that. The version on TGN appears to just be the base game. I'm hoping they'll get the collector's edition as well once it goes to stores.

Not on SD as yet but they say it will be.

I have the original SotS and it is a very nice game that plays a bit slow. I understand the expansion adds needed depth.

I think BoB was a worthy x-pack for SotS. I dont think it is on par with GC x-packs however. But it was good value nonetheless.

Do you guys recommed Sots? I'm thinking about getting the demo first.

It is a decent demo. By all means try it first

The demo only gives you access to about 1/3 of the techs in the game, and I don't recall if you can build any ships bigger than a destroyer. But it will give you an idea. It doesn't include the content added in the expansion either, of course.

I bought BoB online (download) at Gamersgate or Direct2Drive. I was able to save the downloaded files off to a CD and install from there, so I don't feel like I lost anything over buying at retail, other than only having the softcopy version of the revised manual.

I do as it is pretty good at what it does. It is no where as complex as GC but worthy of investment.

Yes, SotS-BoB is a very good game. Demo (last one, made after retail, did allow cruisers but still limited tech).

Plays very different from Gal Civ and Sins.

I should be able to get it out today. ;)

Is BOB stand-alone or do you require SOTS installed to play?

It is much appreciated. Thank you!

I do believe it does require the original SOTS to install it.

You may want to try the SOTS demo if you haven't played it. It is "different", and not everyone's cup of tea. It is almost one of those games that is hard to really like at first, but it grows on you over time. At least it grew on me. You almost have to want to like it to have any chance of really liking it haha, if that makes any sense. Not that it cannnot simply be liked, but I think in most cases you really have to give the game a chance and get over the hump to enjoy it. It is a good game, just don't go in with any expectations. You have to risk some of your time to appreciate the game.

Will a TGN copy of BoB work with a boxed copy of SotS?

Yup, it should.

Yup, it should.

Thanks for the answer, in that case I'll probably buy it once it's up.

Agreed. It's there for purchase and has an icon in the StarDockCentral folder with the initial BOB, but not able to be downloaded in StarDockCentral due to a lack of any way to enter the registration code yet. :-(

Teach me to let a friend find the URL and e-mail me the purchase-page link. :-/ Want, uber-want!

Okay... I purchased it, and I have my serial-number... but in Stardock Central on the Register Games pane I don't have any way to select Born of Blood to enter the serial number, and I don't have the game listed in my games to download.

Um... did I break my account by purchasing from that link just before you officially posted it? Or is there some glitch with SDCentral preventing me from downloading BoB?
