Rise of the Earth Federation

Rise of the Earth Federation

yet annother Terran Alliance AAR

"I've always hated bureaucrats, but now I have become one. Even If it means I'm the head of government that spans an entire planet, irony...sucks."
Edgar Ford, President of the Earth Federation to reporters, circa 2226.

Throughout the twenty-first century, humans wondered how, when, of if Earth would be united.
Some thought it would be out of pure and bare necessity after World War Three, others though it would a military coup' de tat, and some though it would never be united.
However, they were all wrong. It all began in 2016, when the Federated States of Micronesia, tired of being dependent on U.S. aid, held a summit with Tonga, Kiribati, and Fiji with the purpose of creating a political union of island nations that would pool money and resources to fund civil projects, provide disaster aid, and if needed, military support to each other. They called themselves the Oceanic Union. In 2020, a constitution was signed, and the Pacific Federation was born, consisting of all the Pacific island nations excluding Taiwan. While this was going on, dissent against China's communist government culminated in a popular revolution in 2031, which threw out the Communist Party and established the Republic of China. Although this was a turbulent event, the leaders of many countries quietly breathed a sigh of relief, because of them, especially the United States, had increasingly cool relations with Communist China. The most violent step toward the unification of Earth occurred in the Middle East, when Iran and Syria formed a coalition and invaded Lebanon in 2035. Saudi Arabia, Israel, and surprisingly the PF and China formed their own coalition and declared war on Iran and Syria that same year. World War Two-And-A-Half, as it was sometimes sarcastically referred to, went back and forth, with many soldiers dying on both sides, but following a missile bombardment of Damascus in 2042, Syria surrendered and Iran shortly followed suite. To avert another event such as this, Saudi Arabia and Egypt held a conference in Riyadh, and with much work, the United Arab Republic was formed. (Israel assumed protectorate status.) the final steps were more peaceful. As European countries gave more and more power to the European Union, many began to merge together until the fabled United States of Europe emerged in 2062. ,The United States, seeing where the world was going, signed a treaty with Canada, Mexico, and Cuba, which had recently renounced its communist government, creating the North American Republic.
Finally, South America followed suite and created the South American Conglomerate in 2070.
Aside from occasional skirmishes between the minor nations, things were quiet until 2092, when the infamous Thalan probe was discovered in Havana. In response, the nations of the world banded together and formed the Earth Federation in 2110.
With the discovery of cold fusion in 2210, and the subsequent discovery if Hyperdrive in 2220, the Earth Federation was ready to expand into the stars.

That's part one, part two is coming soon...and yes I'll tell you my game settings then.

"Hyperspace signature," Hernedes called out. "It's one of ours." There was a brilliant flash of light, and a Galaxy class ship, traveling at tremendous speeds, quickly grinded to a halt, close enough to read the lettering on its saucer: E.F.S. JUNO. The computer beeped, and Cassandra appeared on the viewscreen.

"Admiral, are you alright," she asked, "Do you need assistance?"

"We destroyed the enemy ship, but we sustained heavy damage and suffered casualties," Evans replied.

"We'll escort you to the nearest planet, you're in no condition to..."
Cassandra was interrupted when someone on her ship shouted, "Captain! I'm reading ships coming from one of the planet! Their weapons are...mien Gott, they've got nano-rippers!"

Cassandra went pale.

"Blanket them with fire! Don't let them get in range!"

Brilliant streams of plasma bolted toward the oncoming ships, some hitting thier mark, but the fighters were unfazed, still knifing toward the Juno.

"William, I'll handle the fighters, just get out of here!"

Evans hailed Engineering. "Leiutenant Richtophen, can we jump?"

"Ja, but it'll take longer for our remaining engine to charge."

"Jump as soon as it is, not a second later!"

Tendath shouted, "They're opening fire!"

The fighters sent a swarm of blood-red orbs screaming at the Juno. Most hit the saucer, slicing through the hull like knives through butter, imbeding themselves inside, and exploding.

"Set course for the nearest friendly planet, and increase power to hull plating," Evans shouted.

The fighters flew wildly around the Juno, dodging her plasma fire and pummelng her with their own weapons. Panals of hull were breaking off, and the plasma cannons' firing became more cahotic and desparate by the second.

Cassandra hailed again. She had a bleeding gash on her forehead, and burn-marks on her face. Sparks were pouring from the cieling, and several of the bridge crew were dead.

"We can't hold out much longer! William, you have to j--" A Klaxon blared, and a red warning light blinked.

"Bridge compromised! Hull decompression! We are losi---" The view screen went black, and the bridge exploded, sending huge flaming pieces of the saucer flying away from the ship, which was consumed with small explosions itself.

"Admiral, the Juno is breaking up!"

The scene was horrifying. Enormous cracks shot accross the flaming hulk, with jets of smoke shooting out of them. One of the cannons fired a final defiant shot, destroying one of the fighters, and the once-great ship broke into pieces. Horrified gasps and distraught screams filled the bridge.

Then, a voice from heaven.

"Engineering to bridge! The engine is charged, commencing jump!"

The pilots of the Korx fighters flew past the wreckage of the Juno, ready to fire at the wounded Barbados. Suddenly, there was a blinding flash, and thier prey disapeard.

The swirling colors of hyperspace had an etheral beauty to them, but that was lost on Evans. His ship was pulverised, and the Juno had been destroyed. Did this happen to the other fleets, he thought. The Korx starting to show thier fangs.

The outcome of the war had become far less certain.

Evans was digusted. No, worse than disgusted. He was nauseous. He had tried not to look, but he caught a glipse of the ravaged bodies of the dead Barbados crewmembers and Korx prisones who died in sickbay. Now, each one was in an empty warp plasma canister that served as a makeshift coffin. Noone made a sound as two Marines loaded the canisters draped with Korxian flags into the airlock and sealed the door. A Marine pressed a series of buttons on the door's keypad and turned to face the crew.
"Johnson was a good friend," he said, his voice steady, but tainted with anguish,"and I'm sure some of you lost friends as well. You may think that if you kill more Korx, you'll avenge them and vindicate yourself--" he cast his eyes down at kill more Korx, then looked at the crew again. "But you won't. What would your friends think if you became murderers? I admit it, when that pod touched down, I wanted to gun them down more than any of you, but I realized that the Korx were doing the exact same thing we were: thier duty. War is not good-versus-evil or a clash of wills. It's people doing thier duty and paying the price. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

With that, he pressed one more button, and the bulkhead slid open. The muffled noise of air sucking out into space could be heard, and the canisters slid forward and out into the void. The crew saluted the fallen warriors gravely, thier respects punctuated by the shunk of the bulkhead closing back. Aside from quiet mumbles and sounds that were half sob, half cough, everyone was silent as they returned to their stations. I can't believe I'm asking him now, Evans thought as he walked towards the Marine who gave the speech. "Colonel Kosolov, I need to ask you something."

"What is it,sir", Kosolov replied, his voice cold as the Siberian tundra he was born on.

"Private Larsen told me you saw a human in one the Korx escpape pods...in a Korxian uniform." To himself, Evans added, What was his duty?

"I interrorgated one of the prisoners--the one mourning over the body. She said the human in the pod was a missionary who was witnessing on Korx before the war broke out. The night before he was supposed to leave--I think she called him Sam--he came over to her house with some new converts to deliver a going-away sermon. Just as it was ending, soliders broke down the door, put everyone in cuffs, and told them they were drafted into the Korxian Navy. And just like that---" Kosolov snapped his fingers in the air---they were on board a Thalan cruiser, one of a few the Dominion bought from the Thalans."

The Korx don't care who they send to war, Evans thought darkly. They don't seem so different now. Aloud he said: "Thank you, Colonel." As the two walked away from each other, Kosolov called out: "Admiral, Johnson was right: war is shit."

"We should listen to people like him," Evans answered.

Nuns creep? I'm not religious, so I have no firsthand knowledge. ;) They are a bit creepy though...
