Fire, I don't want to hijack this thread talking bout strategies; we have a number of different threads on our Tyranny page (link in the OP) that are interesting to check out.

How are we all guys? Just about to post round 4 teams and game rules. Should prove to be a very interesting few months in the league.

I am still working on my gig abundant all game for the tyranny...it is a very slow game, the planet count is over 900 and i only colonized about 30 of that. The Torians are dead and the Thalans just surrendered to the Altarians. So i guess they are my next targets. My military is by far stronger and my Sb array is coming along nicely. The problem will be that the Altarians are allied with the Terrans, who have around 550 planets!!! Compared to my 120 or so. They have taken the Yor and the Arceans and their military is close to mine. So it is a long, long game. The Thalan war took alot out of my war machine and i have to stop building 1/1 fighters to hurry up and get transports. And i still have the Korath, Drath and Drengin to go too!!

It is now been 7 years game time already, so since this is going to be a long one i thought i might try something. I am going to build multiple SB array's. Has anyone does this and what effect do they have on score, since they will be built late in game and not early as is the best. Thoughts guys? Is it worth it?

My advice is to go for the mega-frigates(mentioned earlier). If the best terran current ships have even 60+ attack in their battleships then one mega-frigate can outclass them as one mega-frigate does 98 attack(assuming you have +20 weapons bonus) and can also be easily manageable from early year 2. Its the key to military domination in my games. IT EVEN WORKS WITH SUICIDAL!

Try imagining a mega dreadnought(huge hull): Heres how mine stack up: 323 beam attack 0 defence speed 9, over 2800 BC to manufacture and 79 BC to maintain but at 130 HP(with xinatium hulls and HP bonus) these ships are almost invincible. The real shocker is that if your research output is focused enough without annulling your manufacturing capacity you can easily maintain 10 of these with enough income from a 120 planet empire right from mid-year 4! And if your logistics are above 20 then thats a 260 HP, 646 beam attack fleet of only two ships!

The downside is that if your best manufacturing planet can produce 200 MPs/week then it'll take 14 weeks to make one. And you must have the economy to support their maintenance costs(from 79 to 101 bc).

As you can see my dreadnoughts outclass dozens of fleets. If each fight has 8 HP then it'll take 16.25 fighters to match its HP. If each AI fighter does 20 attack then it'll take 16.15 fighters to match its firepower.

Thats 16 high tech fighters available in year 1 for suicidal and year 7 for challenging AI in one fleet to match.

The thing that set me back was that the Thalans had 2...yes 2 precursor library's. Their ships, though not as many as me, far out gunned mine and i took a hammering getting to his planets. It is rebuild time now. I just wanted an opinion on whether you guys thought building more than 1 SB array was worth the effort.

No way, dude. They are mostly for score. They are for enhancing your military effect on 1 area alone. Eventually they are gonna be a pain. Besides you need 24 logistic points to build one array and then you need 48 to build the other. What next?

I must say I'm humbled. The mega-dreadnought is not in the least intimidating now. They could still deliver about 150 points of damage at the very least through 120 defence but I'm still humbled. That much speed? The mega-dreadnoughts could wipe out so much more even faster! How do you do it, neilo? I must know! The secret to the defence and the firepower! I must improve the mega-warship formula and I need to know what you use!

1000 MP+?! Thats a mega-dreadnought in 3 weeks.

I agree with Fire. SB arrays are no fun. I don't go for score(As you can tell by my crappy scores). Your ships sound very impressive, Must have some military mining resources. And to have planets with that much production, Possibly some economic starbases? I will have to go back in to I think the core, or early in this post or into killing Dreadnaoughts and find out what my ships were. Chat later.

It depends, if your talking military array I have usually had enough at one. I have though built several econ SB arrays around heavy production/research worlds. They don't take near the amount of constructors and really can pick you up when your losing the tech war.

Hmmm? I don't think so. The ships I had at year 4 were impressive I think. I will jot down my ships at year 4 next game. I am Curious. I would also expect it big time depends on your tech rate and what tech tree you are achieving.

the only thing i;ve never been able to get is how people manage to get ships with those kind of ratings; even with ultimate miniaturization and top of the line techs (tho i use Disrupt III and Posit II, i realize that the actual end techs arent as cost efficient) I've never managed to have those kind of abilities unless I have lots of military resources. I may have to try a sandbox cheat game really quick just to work out various ship designs.

Neilo, as for where you are in the game, building another array would be signing your death sentence. At this point the AI knows there are no more possible planets to colonize, only to conquer. No matter your military rating, if you are the only target, you are the only target. To quote Ronan "Even if it was a fleet of Wraith Hive ships, would that stop us?" they're gonna come gunning for ya, I would say you are better off going after their biggest production worlds (late game is also the one time i've found Espionage to be helpful, its kinda nice knowing which planets are actually *worth* taking, its much more crippling to them) and knocking them out rather than spending money on something that won't defend your worlds or allow you to conquer others

The SB array, military of course, is purely for score. I know it will have no bearing on the game itself, if it wasn't for score i prolly would not build the first one. I just want to know will it make that much difference to score having multiple Military SB array's.

As to my ships, i have two Hyperion Shrinker's and two military resource's. But those ships, my Galaxy class frigates, are not close to ships i have had in the past. I once had a Miranda class ship with 500att/500def with about 16 speed. I do not recall what resources i had in that game but IIRC i did have no less than three Hyp Shrinkers. Take engines away and you can far more.

I'll do a couple of screen shots of my production planets for you guys, IIRC my big plus 1000 planet does have Econ bases helping it.

Took a few screen shots for ya all,

The first one is Thebes III, on full military spending it has a production output of 1168. There is 1 fully built out Econ base helping...



This one is my second biggest production world, Saba III, it has an output of 902 with no Econ base to help, it was at 1064 but i am still rebuilding the Econ array that the Thalan's took out,



And this is my Galaxy Aegis class ship, the Krynn Naval Ship Orillias with 211att/157def 40sp. the atttack was higher than that, i must have lost a resource somewhere, haven't found where yet though...wish constructors had an automate feature like miners do,

very sweet Neilo!

On a related note, does have anyone else have issues of planets NOT flipping once the MCC has been built? I like having the econ boost, but it pretty much puts the stops in my Influence games.

Also Neilo, did you forget that the Miranda is supposed to be weaker than the Galaxy class LOL j/k

Gosh, i wish i wasn't feeling so incredibly crappy right now, this is making me want to play, but I got some cold/flu thing from somewhere and I've slept over 18hrs so far today

Yeah, was wondering if someone would pick up on that...i really liked the Miranda class ships and built a dreadnought inspired by it...i think i have the ship in templates somewhere, if i find it i will post it...very cool looking ship, i added an extra two nacelles under the ship in a staggered formation, gives the ship a very mean and sleek look to it.....

I have never had planets flip any easier to me after building the MCC. At first i thought it was from playing on challenging, but i still have not seen any change whilst playing on tough and painful.

very cool; yeah def put up some screens if ya ever get around to it.

i'd have to go with Sovereign and Defiant as my favorites, i was actually never a fan of the Galaxy class..too big and bulky...that was mitigated a lil bit in DS9 when they really had the CGI where ya saw ships actually *moving*

But as for my favorite starship design across the Sci-fi universe...hmmm, I'd probably have to say the Star Destroyers...intimidating, powerful, and efficient in one fell swoop...with Excelsiors being close behind (i just really like that sleekness they have)

Yeah, with the MCC i have noticed that I rarely even get asteroids once its built

Ohhh favourite Sci-Fi ships discussion (out breaks the geeky nerd inside of me)....

Absolutely my favorite Star Trek ship is the Defiant. The Romulan warbird is a close second. I always thought the Galaxy class looked a little tame...i thought the Enterprise C looked better..Ambassador class i believe.

As for favorite ship of all time...it's Star wars yes, but the Tantive IV Rebel Blockade Runner...from the first moment you see that ship in ANH i loved it...again with the Star Destroyers a close second.....

WOW, My son is drooling (Dad those are what I want!). I buy the odd Starwar Lego ship, but I have to put it together. Then it gets broken and parts go missing and it ends up with all the normal pieces of lego. I think you said you have a child, HAHA you will see what happens when your at work and they want to "FLY" them.

I built the Tie fighter myself. My brother had another tie intercepter(sp) and didn't want it anymore, so i bought it of him and built my own tie fighter....i got it pretty close i thought.

I think you said you have a child, HAHA you will see what happens when your at work and they want to "FLY" them.


Oh yes mate, a 5 year old...and if it was not for the lock on the door, he would claim them as his own with no doubt.....when i rebuild them it is a cardinal sin for me to do it if he is no there to "help"....lol!!
