Regal theatres tries to keep movie goers from being annoyed

I know Dharma had recently put up an article that complained of someone, who with their child, was incredibly annoying during one of her recent trips to the movies.   I've also complained about similar situations in the past.

Well, it seems that the Regal theatre chain has heard those complaints and has been trying to do something about it.

According to a news blurb I heard on the radio today, Regal is handing out buzzer type devices to their patrons, or making them available at the seats in the theatres, and those buzzers will page the theatre management or staff so that issues with unruly patrons, noisy patrons, movie pirates, projection or sound problems and more can be resolved without the complaining patron ever having to get out of their seat.

It sounds like a long overdue solution to problems that have plagued movie houses.  In order to complain about the clod sitting behind you talking on their phone, or talking back to the screen too loudly or just laughing with a sneer at what are supposed to be tender moments in a film,  you had to get up and leave your seat to go seek out a manager or someone to handle the problem.  In doing so you missed that much more of the film and lost that much more value.  Not any more, at least not in some Regal theatres.

Ha, they are asking for a headache.

I can definitely see this being abused.

ANd here I thought you were going to say they were going to lower their prices!  After jacking them up and cutting the matinee times.

Yea, like I am going to beleive those shysters.

You think crying is bad? I went to Pirates 3 on Monday and they cut off the essential denouement after the credits! And when we went to complain, they stupid bubblegum-chewing ditz behind the glass in the ticket booth replied impertinently, "Well, I'll tell someone."

I'm still pissed.

Theaters used to have ushers to handle these things. They should bring back ushers, armed ones.

I think people should be able to do the laughing sneer at tender moments. Sometimes it's just so necessary. If it's an honest reaction, it's the same thing as saying you can't laugh.

People eating nachos when they have hollow sounding teeth irritates me. Worse than talking in some cases.

However, talking, cell-phones, kicking seats... all bad.

talking, cell-phones

Or playing with one!  Some doofuss had his cell phone out during Shrek 3 and was playing with it.  The light was very irritating!

I'm a big movie goer. I've had my fair share of having my chair kicked for long periods of time, people talking on phones, some texting and the light on the screen is so bright it's distracting. I learned a long time ago not to take my kids, when they were very young or babies, to the movies so as not to be rude to the rest of the people who pay the outrageous ticket prices and the $5 popcorns. I agree this idea is bad cause the concept of abusing it will make it worse. Not to mention the kids that will be palying around with it. The idea of bringing the ushers back and having them walk around the theater sound more appealing to me. I saw something I had never seen before in a theater, except maybe way back in the days; they actually brought a cart with all the goodies you can get at the counters to sell inside the room during the commercials just before the movie started. I thought it was great, not having to get into those long lines, not havng to hold the ticket to get back in while balancing 3 large sodas, a large popcorn, 2 nachos with cheese and a candy bar or 2 (in other words $50 worth of theater food which I could have probably gotten for $10 or $15 outside the theater).
