Blue Screen Bootskin Error Reboot Solved

it's mostly a BIOS issue, people !!! - PIN the solution, please ~

Hi, I experienced the same error as several others have reported:

The new bootskin displayed, but then quickly flashed a Blue Screen error message,
then went into a reboot cycle, until I finally chose F8 & "Last Known Good Config" etc.

[ If you just wanna see what the error message is,
then R-click My Computer > System Properties > Advanced >
Startup and Recovery Settings > and uncheck "Automatically Restart". ]

My problem was solved by uninstalling the standard Bootskin program,
then reinstalling the Alternative " bootskin102_free.exe " version,
which plays nicely with my BIOS.

I have several other machines to try this on as well.

Seems to me that this issue of BIOS compatability/incompatability
is so FUNDAMENTAL, that it deserves to be Pinned or made a sticky -
or have I missed that somewhere?

Thanks ~

From the Bootskin Download page, under "Alternative Versions:"

Some drivers and bios makers "break the rules" which can cause BootSkin to not work correctly. If you experience that, you can remove BootSkin by deleting \windows\system32\drivers\vidstub.sys. And then try one these alternative versions.
BootSkin 1.02
BootSkin 1.03

to Bichur, and others - as I was RTFM about this forum,
is it up to each person to set their own "Pin" or "Sticky"
topics in the beginning of their own forum menu?

If so, that's an interesting way to do it,
to make it individual & specific like that.

Well, my 1st day was a bit challenging -
playing with all this skinning/customization,
plus just learning the bare-bones-basics of using the forum/website!

But what a great bunch of tools & creativity this whole gig provides - Thanks~

No, site admins decide what gets pinned.

Simple search in Google....bootskin...issues...bios.

It's a well-known fault with various BIOS causing Bootskins to fail, hence the discontinuation of the proggy.

If you're lucky enough to find a version of Bootskin which functions with your BIOS then all is well....

Why would Tuneup utilities work but not bootskin? Maybee somebody here should talk to them? I have no problem changing bootscreen with it but cannot do so with any version of bootskin.

Again, it's bios-specific. Tuneup might not work with others while Bootskin would. I've used Bootskin on my old Dell Optiplex with Win2k since Bootskin's release - never had a bit of trouble.

I tried both BootSkin 1.02 & BootSkin 1.03, and neither of them worked... still get the blue screen and forced to start in safe mode, then uninstall bootskin, and then reboot back to normal.

You also dont have to go into the windows folder etc. like was explained above, if you 'uninstall' it automaticly removes that file along with everything else...

sucks.... I really wanted a boot screen :(

doesn't work..

Yes....that's why you have commented in a year-old thread about Bootskin not always working with different BIOS.

Really, had you read the thread.....yes, this very one....you could rightly feel disappointed but hardly surprised...and your nick could have been 'sadlybootskinblowsforme' ....;)
