New empire forming for older players

Further to the discussion in this post, I have decided to take the initiative of creating an empire for older players -- say, 35 or older. I'm not entirely sure how one goes about doing this, but I suppose we will need a name.

The suggestions so far have been:
1) The Geritol Dominion
2) The Depends Dominion

(and a few of my own)

3) The Precursors
4) The Ancient Ones
5) My Back is Killing Me

(Feel free to make other suggestions)

Whatever name is chosen, I suggest we keep MarshallONeill's tag-line "Yelling At Kids To Get Off Our Nebula Since... Well, For A Very Long Time!" because it is so very awesome.

Since the poll to the side of the main GalCiv2 page has been stuck on "Where do you get your game news from?" for some time now, I wonder if the kind people at Stardock will allow us to use that section to decide on a name? If not, no worries.

We will also have to find a way of determining if someone is as old as they claim they are. I suggest a quiz, not because I am particularly hard-line about age requirements, but because coming up with a quiz would be hilarious.

How old do you want the questions to get?

Ex: "What was the salient game mechanic of the board game "Triplanetary"?

Newer Ex: "Who was the publisher of the original MOO?"

Hmm, I actually didn't know the answer to the first question -- had to look it up on www.boardgamegeeks.com.

Wait, did I just kick myself out of my own empire? Gah! I hate when that happens!

The Gerontocracy! That's the term I was originally trying to think of. Here's the wikipedia entry:

A gerontocracy is a form of oligarchical rule in which an entity is ruled by leaders who are significantly older than most of the adult population. Often the political structure is such that political power within the ruling class accumulates with age, so that the oldest hold the most power. Those holding the most power may not be in formal leadership positions, but often dominate those who are.

So, even though it may not be the most powerful empire out there, it will dominate the others behind the scenes. That's good, because there's more room for my Hoveround back there.

The tiny little bit of game time I get these days goes to my main character in the HCH. However, i would gladly add my original character, WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot, to the geezer empire. He has no AltMeta points, but still has a little street cred in the offical Meta.

I wish I had time to start it up with myself as emperor, but ever since I accidentally flew my battlecruiser into that farmers' market I just haven't had time to rule the universe. Oh, and the whole growing family and full time job thing, too...

Spore. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfrakker in the galaxy. Accept no substitutes.

Ooooooh, The Gerontocracy is a great name! I move that we skip the poll and just use that one. Any objections?

Even Pre-Cursors would be accurate. Like many of you, I remember a time before there was such a thing as a cursor, heh.

My favorite SNL commercial of all-time was the "Oops, I Crapped My Pants" skit. That sounds like a great name or at least a tagline

Okay, going by the few names that people seemed to like, let's vote on the following:

1) The Gerontocracy
2) The Pre-Cursors

Even people who do not intend to join this empire are welcome to help us vote on a name. I mean, since we will eventually be dominating all of the other empires, it only seems fair that we provide you young'uns with a voice, so you won't feel so bad about being pushed to the bottom of the pile. [/sarcasm]

My vote is for #1

I'll end the polling Sunday at midnight EST and then create the empire with the name we have selected.

could we have a poll to skip the naming poll???

Gerontocracy is good. I will join when (if) I succeed in figuring out these metaverse thingies and contribute lots, seeing as I rarely finish my games.

What is a metaverse?
What do I do in order to play in metaverses?
Which metaverse(s) should I join?
Can anyone spare me some Alzheimer medication?

Can someone please give me directions to the metaverse from the metamucilverse... I took the left at albequerky...

I vote for the Pre-Cursors.

Lost Hero,
Did any of those names after the first three relate to the unique feature of the proposed group, i.e. generally older gamers, at all? Honestly, was I just missing something??

no i just randomly joined in the conversation, some were out of a book others i just created along the same lines as the ones you have currently, some were just random altogether.
