Cheap Tomatoes? - Pretty interesting article
This should make everyone think, be you Democrat,
Republican or Independent

From a California school teacher - - -
"As you listen to the news about the student protests
bob

Does anyone in their right mind really think they
will voluntarily leave and return?

There are many hardworking Hispanic/American
citizens that contribute to our country and many
that I consider my true friends. We should encourage
and accept those Hispanics who have done it the
right and legal way.

It does, however, have everything to do with
culture: A third-world culture that does not value
education, that accepts children getting pregnant
and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to
assimilate, and an American culture that has become
so weak and worried about "politically correct" that
we don't have the will to do anything about it.

CHEAP LABOR?
Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?

Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage

Consumers don't want expensive produce

Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs

But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase
"cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. there
is no such thing as "cheap labor."

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and
five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or
$6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he
pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if
he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned
income credit" of up to $3,200 free.

He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent

He qualifies for food stamps

He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care

His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school

He requires bilingual teachers and books

He qualifies for relief from high energy bills

If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they
qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can
qualify for Medicare. All of this is at taxpayer's expense

He doesn't worry about car insurance, life
insurance, or homeowners insurance.

Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins
and printed material.

He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00
to $30.00/hour in benefits.

Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or
$6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.

The American taxpayers also pay for increased
crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.

Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT!??

Actually, it is a civil offense. They are considered by the government to be non-criminal illegal aliens unless they have committed a crime besides being the country illegally.

it may be a civil offense but the federal government won't let the states handle it

Dan, read the bold section at the bottom of reply #24. Basically, while there are civil penalties they are in "addition" to and "not" in lieu of any "criminal" proceedings.

the nationalition people will not allow the local governments to even ask if the people are illegals and will not allow them to deport them becouse that is the agencies job

Unlawful presence in the U.S. is currently a civil offense.

I'm sorry, how do you become an unlawful presences in the US? I mean in order to be here unlawfully you would had to do 1 of 2 things: Either have your passport or visa expire or enter the country illegaly. I can't seem to figure out any other way to be unlawfully present in this country, maybe you can enlighten me. But chances are the percentage of people here illegaly due to crossing the boarders is 10 times more that those who have expired passports or visas. That would mean that unless you can prove you were here at one point legally and then it would be a civil offense, you would have most likely crossed the boarder illegaly which would then make you a criminal.

Okay so I was mistaken on this point. Whatever bureaucracy is in charge should have a system in place to make sure a SSN is legit, require a photo ID, something.

You were mistaken on more than this one point. I counted 6 mistakes on who handles what. Go read "all" the links in reply #19. And just as an fyi...Letting your passport or visa expire is considered a civil offense. Crossing the border illegally is still considered a federally criminal offense.

But you ARE correct in the fact that all agencies involved should be able to check for valid SS numbers and be allowed to prosecute such offenses when found.

I thought the states administered these benefits. I don't know because I never had to recieve these services. That's why I conceded that point, not just for Section 8 but all of the government benefits. My point remains the same, whoever is administering these services should verify that the people recieving them are legimately entitled to them.

I already knew that. If you get caught in the process of actually crossing the border illegally ex.if they pull you out of the Rio Grande or intercept you crawling across the Arizona dessert, that is a crime. If you are living in the U.S. illegally, it is a civil offense. Exactly as I stated in response #22.

You're right, you did say that. And I humbly apoligize to you.

Yep, but I was too fired up to read the whole thing. Plus you even bolded it for me.

I don't know if I have what it takes to participate in the whole political blogging. I feel stressed. I think I'll go back to writing about my favorite TV shows.

I don't know....I think you did alright. You gave as good as you got. And on top of all that you even got an apology from me. Believe me, that doesn't happen often.
