Without Voting

No surprise here folks.  This is what is coming, and just imagine if they get the White House.

n a stunning move, House Democrats today revealed they will attempt to rewrite House rules that have gone unchanged since 1822 in order to make it possible to increase taxes and government spending without having to vote and be held accountable.  House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today vowed Republicans will use every available means to fight this unprecedented change.

"This is an astonishing attempt by the majority leadership to duck accountability for tax-and-spend policies the American people do not want," Boehner said.  "The majority leadership is gutting House rules that have been in place for 185 years so they can raise taxes and increase government spending without a vote.  House Republicans will use every tool available to fight this abuse of power."

What are House Democrats afraid of?

The same thing Roaches are afraid of.

Democrats realize any tax increases are not popular with Americans.  You can listen to socialists like col all day, but people understand raising taxes and class warfare are not the way to go.

Here is the best quote:

“[W]e promised the American people that we would have the most honest and most open government and we will.” (Nancy Pelosi press stakeout, December 6, 2006)

Dem's, Rep's...they're all the same. I wish I got free medical for life.

Well the pro-tax advocates here don't seem to have much of a problem with this.

The truth seems to be that Americans LIKE high taxes. I've harped on the issue till I'm blue in the face, as have others. But the majority of Americans seem to think that a government that operates efficiently is a government that's not doing its job.

the democrats it seems are trying to make tax hikes as easy as it is for them to give themselves a pay raise

even dictator col gene should be outraged by that

No, I think it is they dont see them. Withholding is the man behind the curtain when it comes to taxes. Most people never see the money, so they do not miss it. If they had to write a check (never going to happen), there would be a new rebellion against Washington.

I would bet many Americans have absolutely no knowledge about taxes in general.

However, once again democrats attempt something like this and the media is silent about it.

I agree with this 100%.

There doesn't really appear to be much to actually report. The only thing your article has to go on is a memo from Boehner's office.

Specifically, what rule are they attempting to change?

No more details on this yet?

Dr. Guy,

I challenge you to this: ask them, liberal OR conservative, to take cuts to THEIR pet programs, and they'll have a bird.

A few years ago, a friend of mine who claimed to be a true conservative had a conniption because we were lobbying to fight the online charter school system in Wisconsin. The whole idea was to sell public schools to homeschoolers by offering them nice gifts (namely, free laptops) to help their children's learning experience. Basically, it meant higher taxes to compensate for the extra incoming students. And this is not a scenario I have seen once, but time and time again. We all want to cut the OTHER side's programs.

Until we're willing to accept that fiscal responsibility comes only when we ALL bite the bullet, we will not EVER bring spending under control.

You will get no arguement from me. On another thread I basically said the same thing. Pork is the universal meat of politics.

But if you are challenging my contention of a rebellion, then we can debate that issue. I think if people really saw how much they were paying - by writing checks - monthly would do as well as quarterly - they would have a cow. And I am not talking just federal, but ALL withholding tax - including the ponzie scheme ones.
