Bootskin problem

some work some don't

Hi, I've used bootskin for a bit with no problems. So I decided to make my own bootskins. 1st few I made worked well, looked like the bootskin preview and what not. Last couple I've made have been giving me problems. Two of them show up when I star my computer, but the are really dark, not the colors a choose, they look nothing like the preview. Third one won't even show. My computer resets and I have to start up in safe mode and change my boot screen to default or one of the others I've made that work. I've tested these odd ones in the boot buddy thing and they seem fine. I've made sure the background and bar pallets are the same. I've tried to redo the bad ones with pallets I've saved from my good skins, they look a bit odd in the preview, but still I have the same problems. I was wondering if there is a reason some work and some don't.

Sorry to reply to my own topic. But I've been reading other topics on my problem and I have a question to add.

bootskin doesn't work with all BIOS, there are a couple of alternate versions on ehte bootskin download page WWW Link try one of those and u may have some luck

Does this mean that the program that changes the bootskin itself doesn't work with all bios, or that certain skins don't work with different bios?

The program, the only reason the skin wouldn't work is because something is wrong with it.

Ok, maybe I missing something. I've totally dissected my bad skin. Maybe someone here can see what is wrong.

Just a couple of thoughts in my head but I've yet to test. Maybe some one here can answer these so I can save the time in testing.

* Color order. I know nothing on how html works, but what I've observed is that it seems to go in numeric alpha order from darkest to lightest. Black being 000000 to white being ffffff. Well, when I look at the color order in my palette, it goes out of this order. Maybe it needs to be in the numeric alpha order from dark to light to work.

* Width of the progress bar. Maybe needs to be an odd number and or shorter/longer then what I have.

* Position of progress bar. Maybe I have it to close to the bottom or the side or both.

* The name of the bootskin/bootskin files. Don't know why, but maybe if I change the names to the names of a bootskin that worked in the past.

Sorry for this long post, but I really would like to have this bootskin on my computer. BTW I just tried it on a second PC in my house and got the same results. But both computers are the same brand and may have the same bios, I'm unsure. I also know very little about computers.

Well, I changed ProgressBarX= 3 ProgressBarY= 467 to ProgressBarX= 400 ProgressBarY= 400
and the bootskin finally worked. I don't know how close it can be to an edge but this solved my problem, now I just have to make the background fit with the bar in another place.

right, i used to use boot randomiser and i was able to change my bootscreen fine, now that wont work as i have to get my boot skins in zip folders which i used to get off theme xp which i no longer go on as its a wee bit dodgey. Basically i know i can change the boot screen with it working.

I now tried using all three kinds of bootskin with several different bootscreens all of which resulted in the same thing.

When i restarted my computer it showed the bootscreen and then resarted again then my screen went blank. I had to go into safe mode and delete bootskin to get my computer working again. I have no idea what to do. Can anyone tell me how to get it working or if they know another type of boot screen changer they think will work? thanks...
