Equivalency with Retail Version

I am a proud owner of Galactic Civilizations 2 and Dark Avatar. I recently purchased a copy of Space Rangers + Space Rangers 2 at a local retail store. I opened the box, installed Space Rangers and played it for a few days before installing Space Rangers 2. Upon install, I realized that Space Ranger 2 contains Starforce protection software. I have read of the injurious effects of Starforce software on computers and have no desire to keep such programs on my system. I have also read that the online distributed copy of Space Rangers 2 does not contain Starforce. Is there anyway that I, as a paying owner of Space Rangers 2, can obtain the online distributed copy without paying twice for the same game?
