Some Help With Bryce, Please

First, let me tip my hat to all the artists who work with Bryce. I cannot figure this program out at all.

Abstracts~ I have followed some tutorials on how to make an abstract wall and have made a few, but I won't post them. All I am doing is following someone elses instructions and recreating their work. Yeah, I can spin it around and change the angle, but I want to learn how to do this so I can make my own and in the tutorials, they don't tell you that part.

I am trying to make some objects and icons. I cannot figure out (if it can even be done) how to save just the object/icon and not the whole bloody scene. Can it be done?

I would love some tips on where to find tutorials for Bryce...specifically for noobs like me. Not the ones that start with 'I assume you have a basic understanding of Bryce...", because I don't. lol.

Any help would be more than welcome.

Po'

Until someone more advanced comes along, I can tell you that you can use the following to extract an object from the scene in an image editing program:

1 - Create the scene with the object you want to use and render the scene.

2 - Use the 'File > Save Image as' command to save as a '.bmp', '.jpeg', or '.psd'.

3 - With the scene still open, select the object(s) you want to extract, and then go into the 'render options' dialog (in Bryce 5.1, it's the lowest arrow in the left-hand control pane).

4 - In the render options dialog, select 'Object Mask' and then re-render the scene.

5 - Use the 'File > Save Image as' command to save your mask.

6 - Open both files in say Photoshop (or any other layer based editing program) and then copy the mask onto a seperate layer in the full color scene file.

7 - With the full color image layer active, use the selection tools to select the black portion(s) of the mask and then delete the scene parts around the object you want. You should be left with your object(s).

Note - the problem with this is that you still have reflections and perhaps materials left-over that may show in the object. This of course requires some more forethought in the designing of the object(s) in Bryce to allow the intended use in your image editing programs.

Good luck.

Render the whole scene and save, then select object you want, from render options select object mask and render. Save mask to mask folder of graphics software you use, for Paint Shop Pro, save as a jpg. Open image in graphics program, load mask, use magic wand to select object, anti-alais on and you may need to play with amount of feather to get it the way you want, then crop to selection and you are on your way.

Lol.

https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=2698&libid=3 Looks very similar, but then we both based it off the original icon, mine was more customized, though.

Well few of my skins are made from Bryce too. Most wallpapers for one.

Good thing I like to 'troll' as it were. I find the most useful tips and info in these threads. Haven't used Bryce ( my version is 5.1) because I couldn't quite get the hang of it. Many thanks to Cavan1...XX...Skinhit...Corky and Po' Smedley for making this thread. you guys rock big time.

Uvah, if you wanna see some of more unusual ones, check out Three Spheres. It IS literally made from camera, light, and 3 spheres. Good luck on figuring out how it was made.
