Screen Shot Of The Day

I would like to see " Screenshot of the Day " return
to the way it was before , with a daily shot and your
Gold Star for the effort , some people here put a lot
of time and effort into their screenies to "show off"
the Artist work and should be re-warded i believe for
their contributions to this web-site !!

The Daily shot is still on the bottom of the gallery tab page but was showing same shot for 4 weeks.

That is one thing I will always agree with AZ. The Screen Shots are always nice to look at and its the one place the skinners get to see their work being used. I enjoy watching how different people set up their desktop using the same blinds and elements.

Maybe one day they will put it back or at least change the shot on a daily basis.
But, sadly, space on front page is like prime real estate.

I kinda liked seeing the shot of the day - haven't noticed it for weeks. Must be the change in design. You know, if enough people ask for something people will listen

Someone changed the Daily Shot.

Was the Daily Shot always there at Stardock?
I never sign in that way. Did the Daily shot change on that page and just didn't update on the WC end ? I saw same shot for 4 weeks on WC.

We want it the WAY IT WAS! Stardock knows how important ScreenShots are. Tell us about it.

Well, lets start by asking them.....

Im sure they know that its important for people that do not skin to be part of the sites activities. Screen shots are a way for everyone to participate and there is a difference between a so-so screen shot and a GREAT screen shot. It gives everyone a chance to see items they missed and things off the web that others are sharing.
Screen shots are also a beginning step to skinning. Little by little people learn to 'tweak' a bit here and there, customizing their own desktop until they feel confident enough to try their hand at making something and uploading it to the site.

Many skinners are born in the Screen Shot Section.

I can work with one daily screenshot but screenshots as a whole irritate me.

1. Many (most) don't document what componants make them up so then I have to ask and wait for a reply to get the same look and feel
   
2. Some screenshotters spam the library and that chaps my hide
   
3. The arguement that they are the "gateway drug" to more formal skinning stikes me as false
   

If I had my way (and I never do) I'd say whack the screenshots gallery and put that attention into themes. Get permission from the artists of the elements of the desktop, package them up as a Theme Manager theme and THEN post them.

You would like the average patron to document components. So what is WinCustomize but the documentation of skins. I don't put a screenshot up so you can duplicate it. I put it up because I am proud of it. It is common courtesy to put who did the skins for the credit of that individual that made the skin.



Is this not the reason for going through moderation? Try getting a wall through with spam.



I agree with you here somewhat.

I beleave Brad has said that this site is for the community. We, those who use/make, are all the community. I am an Artist. My hobby is drawing and painting. I do not have time to invent skins. Maybe someday when I retire I will. Maybe, just maybe, I will do a skin because I was inspired by a sreenshot....then maybe not.

Where is the Theme Gallery ? I dont see one.

Ya, there is one. If you don't have one showing Fairyy~ just edit your Gallery to display it. For whatever its worth, I know the Screen Shot of the day has taken a back seat. One, it isn't being changed daily. Two, it's no longer visible.

This could be made into a requirement for consideration as a Screen Shot of the day. I think a great screen shot is good for skinners and WinCustomize. Skinners have used Screen Shots to show off their new works. And, users of Object Desktop and Stardock's other great programs like Object Dock can share how they are using the products and what skins are hot. Anyway, I'm definately looking for a change to the Screen Shot of the Day. I like the old way much better.  **Edit** Fairyy~ it's called Suites

I do think that they can be useful and good for the site, maybe they are. They're just not for me because I don't think they are used responsible or to their full potential.

Sleepydawg, I did not mean to indicate that a screenshot contained spam, just that when one user posts a bunch of them a day, they are not showing off the desktop they are using everyday, they are mass producing screenshots for some other reason.

BigDog, using the screenshots to show works-in-progress is a wonderful use of that gallery. You are so right there.

Oh ok..I see the 'Suite' gallery but I assumed that was for original work that several skinners put together in a joint effort.
We have had the discussion of more than one screen shot a day before and the Shots not containing any details. But unless its made one of the rules of screen shots - that is how it will remain. I have always said one great shot is worth 5 tossed together ones. But, Its been this way since I came here and I doubt it will change.
But I still think screen shots are worth the effort for me to look at.
Since I came to WC I have seen quite a few go from screen shots to skinning. I can name a dozen ......some are no longer here anymore but are still skinning and or making walls.
I started out in the Screen shots with only the free 30 day trials of Stardock products. When I found that I couldnt tweak as sufficiently as I wanted with free trials , I purchased Object Desktop.
So ..I still think Screen Shots serve a purpose.

Yes they see their download count but how much if any actually
is used - how many things do you download - have a look then put
to bed ?

Screenshots have their place and those who produce them
shouldn't be looked on as second rate citizens !!

with their comments and chatting with one another
and making new friends - all my friends here have come from there
as it seems the skinners are to busy to mingle with ya .

Are you suggesting that everyone that downloads a GUI element should upload a screenshot?  I can imagine a very congested gallery!  LOL

I can see where that comment could have come across poorly.  I apologize. 

I think screenshots are a hop and a skip away from suites,  They can show off the same elements AND be usable by the downloader if they want the same set-up.  It would take a little more work to get permissions of all the artists . .  but that might slow down the "let me post 20 screenshots a day" folks.

And AzDude . . thanks for reminding me about the fun part of this joint. I wouldn't trade the fun stuff for the world.  This may fall into the "different strokes for different folks" category.
