It is likely locked away in the executable and to modify it would break the EULA.

it is a bit itchy on the retreat button though. its been rather easy to destroy a few frigs and cause a much larger force to retreat

Or even concentrate fire on their flagship... once it starts getting threatened the AI usually runs if they can. Or do whatever it is that AI #2 does that causes AI #1 to suddenly turn around and retreat to its home planet when its on the verge of capturing something. Sending a colony frigate seems to work.

That is not good. I have not seen many AI battles however.

I've noticed that the AI in this beta has a very one track mind. It will pick a planet to attack (usually very deep in enemy territory) and will just keep jumping there until either it gets there, it's destroyed or it hits a jump inhibitor. Even if the planet is taken by friendly forces, it will still keep going.
