In my short lifetime people have demanded we save the earth for our progeny. The first time I remember was that we needed to reduce the population in order to save recourses for our children.
I was indoctrinated to believe that we all needed to have as few children as possible in order to make it possible for our children’s children to survive. I was told in the 1970’s that by the year 2000 we would have six billion people on the planet and that with so many people on the planet there was no way we would have food to feed all six billion people. There would be mass starvation, pain and suffering for our children. This is no way to live so we must practice ZPG. Zero Population Growth. This was all the rage in Europe and started to become popular in the United States. Abortions were ok in Europe but not so much in America. In America abortions were only legal in 20 states and that would not do if we wanted to save the children and the Earths recourses for them.
This is when we had Roe Vs. Wade which legalized abortions nations wide. Going against the majority rule and local control. Just like in Europe our population began to shrink. The good part was that only idiots bought into the foolish belief of ZPG but the ball began to roll and the next thing they put forth was save the trees for our children. Earth Day! Yes, I was one of the kids planting trees and cleaning up the woods so my children would be able to enjoy the beauty of trees that would not be around much longer because the next ice age was only 20 years away unless we did something! We have birth control pills and abortions to reduce the population.
We have Earth Day to save us from the next ice age. We did something good right?
Wrong, we have a smaller population making it easier to be over run by our enemies that don’t use birth control and won’t kill their children in the form of an abortion. They will kill their children in the form of suicide bombings, sort of a retroactive abortion. But I digress.
We have not saved the Earth with Earth Day, we have not saved the earth using the plan of ZPG. And more than 20 years have passed and we have not entered an ice age.
Now in order to save the Earth we must cut or eliminate all Co2 emissions. This will be hard to do because eliminating them all will include all animal life including mankind. Even if we do this we will not save the Earth only blot out the people on the Earth. I remember a few years ago Greenhouse gasses were the big fear. Methane was the biggest worry because so much of it was put into the air. We had to stop this great menace before it over heated the Earth and wiped us all out in Global Warming. We now know that the majority of animal produced methane comes from cows not man or mans machines. This means that we can’t blame man for global warming. Then we find out that global warming leads to ice ages. Let’s not call it global warming lets call it Global Climate Change. Because no matter which way it goes it is climate change and no one with any knowledge past the 7th grade would laugh at the flip flops made by people wanting to Save the Planet. Don’t get me wrong folks saving the planet is a noble cause, just one that mankind can’t do. Our planet it too large for man to have any major control over something like the weather if we could we would not be bothered by little things like hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, and the like.
Let’s take a macro look at our world. In about 6 billion years the Milky Way galaxy will collide with the Andromeda over the next 3 billion years our two galaxies will merge into one galaxy while at the same time it is traveling on another collision with the local group of galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. We are traveling at 1 million miles an hour toward the Virgo cluster. Interesting but not important to mankind because in 5 billion years our star will run out of fuel expand and burn the first three planets in the solar system to a cinder then suck them into the star.
All life on planet Earth will end. Not to worry folks because about 100k years from now the Sun will continue to expand as it has been doing the last 3 billion years making the Earth warmer and warmer. This will continue until the oceans begin to boil and the Earth will look like the planet Venus. And all life will end.
Not to worry because this is a minor issue. In about 130 years from now there is an asteroid coming our way. the scientist are not sure it will hit us or not but it will be so close that the next pass the asteroid will hit us so we have about 600 years to live.
Not to worry because if we donate enough money to Greenpeace we can save a single tree in a rain forest that will survive until the asteroid hits us.
Does any of this look like we have the power to stop it?
Now let’s take a micro look at our world. We have microbes all over the planet that kill in hours, some days, some as long as two weeks. There is a flesh eating bacteria that will kill you in hours, days at the most. We have been fighting this crap for centuries and have not made any real headway.
Man is supposed to be so destructive to this planet wiping out species left and right in its ignorance to grow and expand. But tell me when has man tried to wipe out a species and succeeded? We have been trying to wipe out the mosquito for about 8,000 years and the little bastards are still around. Fleas, we have been trying to get rid of them too, any luck so far? Not one animal or insect that man has been trying to get rid of is gone. Species that we thought were extinct are found alive and well thriving with no notice of man.
Yet this planet has wiped out billions of species in a single burp. When the volcano tamboura, not sure of the spelling, erupted the single eruption brought mankind to the brink of extinction. When geneticist back tracked our DNA they found out that most of the humans on the planet died out about the time of the eruption. We went from tens of millions on the planet to about two hundred thousand. At the same time we had an ice age caused by the eruption that really hurt us as a species. That was one single major eruption. The Earth has had at least five eruptions like that, the last one in the United States was only a 160k years ago on a cycle of 70k to 160k years. Save the planet? Save mankind Earth is a dangerous place!
Can we save the planet? Nope but we can feel good while we spin our wheels waiting to die.
My belief is we have to find a new planet to move to or there will not be a human race and the only hints that we exisisted will be the Pioneer and Voyager probes because nothing else has gotten out of our solar system. Sure radio and TV broadcasts have gotten out but with every mile they travel they degrade so in time they will be unintellagable to anyone that receives it. Just static like we receive in between stations. Maybe that static was what was left of another civilation gone.
What do you think we could and should do?
