Group Phase Jump

When playing my first few games I wished that all my ships that I send on the attack would jump at the same time rather than piece mail. After some digging in the controls I found that the command to toggle that wasn't bound and then realized it's part of the move button. When I tried to use the group jump I've run into problems though. I have my main fleet set as group one and I select them when they are all in the same system and right click the move button to change the phase jump option to "All grouped". Yet when I then go to jump to another system about half of the fleet jumps as soon as it hits the gravity limit (term?) while the other half waits and then jumps as one.

Not sure if there is something different you have to do to set the command or is it just currently not working correctly.

The button is a toggle thats set on a per-unit basis.. I think. Make sure the icon does not say "Some grouped" when you mouse over it; you have to make sure it says All Grouped. Now, given that, I have seen some cases where units will jump early even with confirmed All Grouped, but its been pretty rare.

Thanks for the post. The proper behaviour should be in place but there is still too much room for error. We are currently testing a solution for this. You'll know it worked if you see it in the next patch

Well, in my experience the problem lies in the fact that group jumping only works for move orders, not for attack orders. Since currently right clicking on an enemy planet issues an attack order, the fleet will ignore the group jump setting. When using the move button instead, it seems to work just fine.

I was looking for posts on double click using search and it came up with this one, so I will add a hapenny here since we are talking about fleet management. I was going to suggest a double click to select all units of type in visual range or perhaps in the same gravwell (+ a bit) it would make it a bit easier to organise them.

Also linked to phase jumping, I am not sure about this through route business, I have enemy fleets bunny hopping around my empire even with a huge reception commitee at their first arrival point & inhibitors. Whats the point of having a gravwell and lane system... allegedly to bottle neck the fighting? But its not any better than free jumping at the moment IMHO because it doesnt tackle the issue, which is range, you should not be able to jump multiple jumps like that. You should make one jump and need to wait to recharge in the early game. Mid game you should be able to make 2 jumps max and late game 3 jumps. Interstellar travel should be a ship module on caps and colony only. Or even better go caps only & (edit) keep one cap with a colony function. That way frigates always have to be locally produced, if you get the feel of what I am saying, you get a sense of the meaning of size as they are too small for interstellar travel and also you have to reach that capship hurdle before you can get to new stars and colonise.

Back to bunny hopping, IMHO to jump through a gravwell you should have to cross it so you are on the outward facing edge or at least a tangent to the destination with the current system, so you dont get cheeky little lagomorphs phasing through the middle of your gravwell. It just ain't natural .

This is also something that's being looked at internally.

I have been messing around with this, trying to force my ships to all jump at the exact same time. Currently I can get it to work right, it just takes micro management. If you order all your ships to move to an edge and then order the jump it will work pretty well. However this still does not make them all jump at the same time. You have to move each ship so that its next to the edge and not waiting in line.

Here is what I was thinking. What if there was a second ring outside the gravity well that defined the “Jump” zone, it could be made large enough so that you fleet could fit in it and could all jump at the same moment and not have to wait in line. Maybe not even a ring maybe individual “jump” zones that bubble out from the gravity well, you would use to get to the corresponding “jump” zone. Order you fleet into one of these zones and once they are all in the order can be issued to jump.

I have to say though, its not generally that annoying when a single ship goes first atm usually the rest of the fleet is close enough behind that it doesn’t matter. I think it may matter more when playing against people who properly place their defenses though as that first ship would be decimated.

Edit: These jump zone could be filled with some kind of gas or something that facilitates the use of jump drives i.e. jumping is not possible without being inside these clouds whatever they are due to the jump drives relying on (insert sci-fi speak).

The simple way that i make sure that group jump works is that i right-click on the move button in group mode and then i left click the button to select the move command, and then left click the system i want them to group jump towards, it has worked without problem for me multiple times.

I use group jumping alot, and I have notice some problems..Specially with a big fleet. All my ships into position and wait for to jump, but I always have a few, mainly is the capitals that fly up and down and around in circles trying to get a spot in the jump. This takes forever! I've waited for 2 minutes before, thats to long, My whole fleet could of made it to the next planet with individual jumps.

It works for me!
