Builder Co-operation


Hello everyone,

While watching a few of my upgraded planets' builders go merrily go about their task it hit me as odd that they do not combine there skill to build units faster. Would it be possible to have either a system-by-system setting or an empire setting that allowed you to have builder co-operation so orbitals can be built faster?

I would prefer a system-by-system setting where when in a pinch I could set that system's builders to co-operate and churn out extra platforms or a fighter base faster. For simplicity I believe it should be all co-operate or stay individual. This could be availble from the outset or as an empire technology to be researched.

Anyone else interested in this?

Yea, I've considered this. It should be default behavior to cooperate if there is only 1 task to be completed.

Oh, i hadn't thought of that. That isn't a bad idea, I actually feel the same way, I usually want to churn out those stations faster sometimes, cooperative builders would do that. Good thinking.

Weeeelll...

Things like Phase Inhibitors are decently fast to build as is compared to move/combat speed. Do you really want the AI building a new inhibitor every time you try to retreat?

speaking of building stuff and making it link for better co-operation, sry if i'm seeing things the wrong way but by watching multianna's video clip "btw very impressive way to tease us folks who don't have the beta, tnx multi " it seems to me that he was missing a few sy on top of his homeworld say north and south pole and why is it that you can only build platform defenses on a horizontal plain view as it was stuck on the planets eqeator?

i havn't played the beta but from the video clips, i didn't see any platforms or shipyards on either top or bottom of the planet. my question is that will you guy's 'ironclad or devs' be keeping this a final positioning for sy and pfd? or will you guys fix this and have more options around the planets gravitational perimeter for players to put pfd and sy as they wish around the planets field. x and y axis in your disposal would give us players a better positioning of some few strategic defense covers for wich ever item or structures we build.

i guesse this is kind of like a plea for those hardcore micro gamers out there   .

Oh, I forgot to mention: I don't think it should be a linear increase in build time.

I prefer a time factor with same build cost. Perhaps 2 builders build 1.5 times as fast as 1 builder and 3 builders 1.5 times as fast as 2 builders. Therefore, a 30sec build would take 20sec for 2 builders and 14sec (always round time up to nearest sec) to build with 3 builders.

Another way would be for a linear build time increase with a cost factor. With this method a 30sec build would take 15sec for 2 builders and 10sec for 3 builders. However, there would be a cost factor applied either to the credits or the metal and/or crystal required. Perhaps for a 1000 (credit or metal or cyrstal) build it would be 1.25 more expensive with 2 builders (ie. 1250) and 1.25 more expensive than 2 builders for 3 builders (ie. 1562, again always rounding up).

Actually, after typing this out I think it could be great to have both methods available. The factor for the build focused and the cost factor for the reasource focused. This sort of parallels the way in which cap-ships can earn levels either through battle or purchase. If builder co-operation were implemented in this way then I would prefer it be an empire level research targeted for mid- to late-game.

I'm pretty sure that you get a builder for each level you improve the planet/asteroid. Level 3 planets get 3 builders.

Agreed, the build times are strategically chosen, imagine if during a fight your opponent could power build fighter bays and defensive cannons 1 at a time but very quickly, currently it gives you time to deal with an upcoming structure.
