Gravity field scale...

As it stands, a planets gravity field is imo way to small. Its almost like you are jumping on a super highway to go to a new planet and then your crammed into a phone booth at the destination planet. I believe this field needs to be scaled up about 3-4 times; at which point sensor beacons and fog of war (sensor range) can be implemented in order to add more strategic value to the game.

I think this is another excellent (customizable/optional) feature for map generation. Being able to be near a planet without the enemy knowing about it would be fun (and vice-versa).

The official gravity well sizes will no doubt be going thru plenty of revision up to release but if you want to try it out, they are very easily modded. I'll leave it to the detectives out there to see if they can uncover the secret. Already those in the sins irc channel have figured out lots of neat tricks including swarms of 300 fighters and completely new ship layouts

i agree with making the gravity well bigger. i said something to that extent on the game play thread. i feel that they should include more objects that can be colonized per gravity well, like 2-3 planets that way ppl can fight in the space between. the same can be applied to asteroids you can have a belt with 4-5 asteroids that can be colonized the well will be bigger because of the added objects.

I hope for the option to be able to have a solar system with less then 20 planets. Maybe even one with the number of planets equaling the number of players.

I'd like gravity wells to be somewhat larger, and would also like it if ships couldn't warp right through them (I like the word warp ) I actually watched a colony frigate go to the edge of a gravity well, go into warp, then fly right through the gravity well's planet on its way to the neighboring planet.

There has been overwhelming feedback to remove phase jumping through gravity wells. We will be testing it shortly to see how it works out. Spread the word!

Yeah they should jump around the gravity well.... not through it.

I've read many posts with people complaining about gravity wells being too small. I am sure the developers will enlarge them for us. The real question now is really by how much will they be enlarged.

Personally, I would like to see them at least ten times larger...but keep in mind that I am a big Homeworld fan and love tactical battles and fleet maneuvering Ten times larger might make battles last a bit too long for some players tastes...of course many of us would love that. The developers really must have a hard time trying to balance the wants of the Galactic Civ fans with those of the Homeworld fans.

What would be great is if they enlarge the gravity wells at least 5 times and add tactical level fog of war and sensor ranges. That would win over even the most die hard Homeworld fans.

10 times larger seems REALLY large , maybe 2-3x larger would be more realistic.

Removing Phase jumping through grav wells sounds Ok, means you have some forced time to initate combat. Maybe a friendly 'Phased Assist' Planitary Module for friendly vessles in a hurry to get through?

The thought of more colonies and bases within a single, larger gravity well makes me tingle with excitement.

I would love this too, a single system in a gravity well. Maybe cap it at 5 planets and some resoruce asteroids. Asteroid plaents would count as planets for this pourpose. And a nice sun in the middle Of course we would need a balck hole for center gravity well to travel between systems of wells (ie galaxuies) And if you go into that well you better get out soon or it wille at you :O

Hmmm, the idea of having huge gravity wells with several planets/moons and asteroids in them is extremely enticing. This way, the developers could have Phase Highway choke points AND we could get some pretty interesting multi sided battles over the entire gravity well.

what i was saying was that i would like there to be more than one object that can be colonized per well that way each one may have more than simply its strategic value i.e. phase lanes it can use. it does not necessarily have to encompass the whole system but it can.

A single system well would be great. Infact, shouldn't that allow the 'galaxy' you play in to get much larger? (Cause each system won't have a bajillion planets just a handful!)

Even if it is moddable, it's cool.
