Jim Webb, his aide, a gun, and no matching stories

Oh what tangled webbs some people weave....

It seems (according to D.C. local news reports) that Jim Webb, erstwhile U.S. Senator representing Virginia, is telling stories that don't quite sync with those of his aide that was arrested carrying *his* (Webb's) gun, along with extra ammo.  Arrested because said aide tried to enter the U.S. Senate office building and apparently "forgot" that the concealed weapon was there.

At a minimum, Webb has some 'splainin' to do because he couldn't account for the weapon over a period of a few days time, and apparently the aide also couldn't keep track of the weapon enough to keep from getting arrested with it in his possession when he tried to enter the U.S. Senate office building.

Webb needs to go back to remedial gun safety training and learn how better to keep track of his weapons.  He was able to claim that he needs the weapon for personal and family safety purposes (which makes no sense as there have been no announced threats on him or his family that I'm aware of),  but regardless, losing track of a weapon is a sure sign that the individual that lost track of said weapon doesn't need to have one in the first place.  He is obviously not a person capable of the personal responsibility that comes along with having a firearm.

His aide should be in the jail just for being stupid enough not to keep track of the weapon that was given to him by his boss.  Reportedly given to him at the airport, but again, that's one story, apparently it doesn't quite match with anything else that was said by the other party involved.  Either way, knowing that firearms are illegal in D.C., despite a recent court order that might change that and give District of Columbia residents back their second ammendment rights (which is pretty funny since the District keeps lobbying for statehood status claiming that many of their citizens' rights have been robbed due to lack of statehood and/or congressional representatives.  Irony for sure.  The District long ago took away the second ammendment rights of the citizens there),  the aide should have had sense enough to take the weapon back to Webb's home or some other suitable location where it could have been safely locked away.

Fact of the matter is that the weapon was *loaded* when the aide tried to enter the office building, at least according to current reports.  If true, then we have a U.S. Senator that seems to believe firmly in vigilante justice, or at least firmly believes in the individual right to bear arms for personal protection (but whom is a member of a party that has repeatedly tried to restrict gun owner's rights).  Same Senator apparently had been going around with a loaded weapon.  Hmm, makes you feel very safe knowing he has been packing heat everywhere he goes.

It is possible that the aide loaded the weapon, but why?  Hmm, don't think so since the Senator basically admitted (via news conference Q&A) that he was carrying it for protection.  Again though, loaded weapon being carried around without much concern for tracking it's location?  Bad move.

Webb has a lot more 'splainin' to do here, but of course the main stream media probably won't call him to task on it.  After all, his name isn't George Allen, and he is a Democrat not a Republican.

Just a bit more proof that Webb is an idiot and that the idiots that elected him when choosing between him and George Allen were not doing anyone any favors.

While some might claim that George Allen wasn't any better, I don't recall issues with loaded weapons when Allen was the Jr. Senator from Virginia.

Well, I am sure the Post is going to white wash this for him.  But he is getting no pass down here.  His press conference when he was trying to explain about self defense and all came off like a crying baby.  He is the worst senator in Washington, and our state deserves him for electing him.  I doubt he will serve 2 terms unless he does a 180 real quick.  But there is a lot of damage he can do in 6 years - and he seems to have hit the ground running in that respect.

He is the worst senator in Washington

Has thou forgotten several other Democrats in the U.S. Senate?

I'm not sure he's the worst, but he may be "up there" with several others.

Sadly though, he's an example of why it's important for any voter to be careful of who they send to the U.S. Senate.  The Senate is 100 people total, and any one that is bad can help influence things to determine majorities for getting legislation passed, keeping legislation from getting passed, etc.  If Webb wasn't there, the Senate would still be Republican controlled and there'd be less of a chance of seeing bills that are passing through Congress meeting President Bush's veto pen.

You are surprised by this why?

Anyone in Virginia that is, is a fool.

Funny how the law states that it is illegal to own a firearm in the District of Columbia. Luckily for him the DC court of appeals overturned that law just a few days earlier. Though it is still illegal to bring a firearm into the capital building. Oops. Guess he will have to resign, nope he is going to let his aid take the fall.

Another one bites the dust.

He claims to be pro-gun, but is probably just a slave to the party line. Hope his aide had a fun birthday in the tank with DC's finest citizens.

Jim Webb Can Join Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer as Senators that demand gun control for everyone else but carry fire arms them selves.

More proof that Democrats will send their own to prison to save their own skin.
