So my boss is going to be gone today leaving me in charge. Part of the great thing about Friday's for us and our before/after school program is that we get to watch movies on Friday. Well since this responsibility was put into my hands I thought I'd go for a classic that many of our kids have never seen, let alone heard of, The Princess Bride. I fire up my beast of a car, throw my dad in shotgun (since he's taking the day off) and head for that Monopolizer of movie rental, Blockbuster.
Well first of all locating this movie was a challenge. I started in the family section....no dice. Went up to the register to ask where it was and "comedy" was the response. I saw the Princess Diaries, Princess blah, Princess blah blah, and finally Princess blah blah blah....again, no dice, or uhh...movie. So I went to the other register to say I still couldn't find it and a look of annoyance came over the guys face as he briskly walked down the "action" section and pointed to the film on the bottom shelf. Action? Well, whatever. So now all I have to do is select the DVD or VHS version being that Beta was successfully slaughtered during my early youth. Well, although Blockbuster charges a "new release" (in parenthese because "new" will often be within the last 2-3 years) fee for any DVD, I decide, "hey, it's not my money" and grab the DVD edition and make my third visit to the registers...hopefully the last one of the day.
After paying I grab it and go for the door when I notice that the movie has been incorrectly typed "The Princess Blade" on the case. To my dismay the "incorrect" title, was actually the correct title of the movie I had just unknowingly rented as was confirmed when I opened it to see a picture of a scandalously dressed woman with a sword in her hand.
I go back in to reveal the error and it is reasonably quickly remedied...though, the thought of me showing The Princess Blade to kindergarteners does make me giggle to myself a little bit. "Why did she cut that guys head off?" "Are we supposed to see naked people in school?" "I'm telling!" Or from the 4th and 5th graders "This is the best movie we've ever watched here."
Which, let's be honest, The Princess BRIDE, is one of the best movies....ever.
