Wallpaper making - Talent in a snapshot

It's not easy making a good wallpaper

I've seen a lot of people take a bit of a snobby attitude about wallpaper making -- that it is somehow "easier" to make wallpapers than skins.

While I agree it is less time consuming to make a wallpaper than a skin. The artistic merit of wallpaper making is no different than any other form of art creation IMO.

Rather, making a wallpaper is a good way of getting a snapshot of the artistic talent.  Making a good wallpaper requires both artistic talent in creation and a good eye for usability. Clearly, most people (including myself) lack either one or both of these qualities.

So while almost anyone can make a wallpaper. Very few people can make good wallpapers.

In my view, the time to make something doesn't reflect the talent involved. It just involves the amount of overall effort.

Well said.

I haven't had the same experience with snobbiness though. Wallpaper artists are their own clique. I highly respect many.

Everyone can make something cool in their own eyes but it takes talent to make something cool to everyone. I do not enjoy making wallpapers. There is sooo much better out there than I can do. I'm only kidding myself by using my own wallpapers.

I to agree being Creative takes time and effort
and plenty of skills no matter how you chose to
show it off - Good Wallpapers have to lend themselves
to being decorated with icons and alike - so need to
be use full as well as 1st class pic. that someone
would want to look at over and over again .
Since most people see things differently pleasing
the masses with a wallpaper is No easy task !

PS ... most of the time I don't want to use
my own wallpapers because i've spent
soooo much time looking at them making
them , I'm now tired of them.
I'd rather now look at something new ... anyway just my 2 cents worth of opinion !

A really good wallpaper can take longer than some skins. I struggle to make what I consider 'good wallpapers'. I think certain wallpaper creators deserve far more credit than they receive.

A talent for making wallpaper is a fine line between making it artistic and functional, IMO. While it helps to be artistic in wallie creation, the creation does not necessarily have to be art, at least not in the classical sense of the word. Personally, if I spend more than 3 nights working on a wall then I’m doing something else, like making a picture – art? Which does sound a little snobby but I agree; it does take both artistic talent in creation and a good eye for usability.
