carriers truth or fiction?

carriers truth or fiction?

Hi all

the part of this game i am really looking forward to is the use of carrier type ships
from what ive seen my understanding is that you will have some battleships with upgrades to allow complements of fighters, bombers etc

but will there be an out and out carrier ship, ie no heavy arments but with some anti missile/fighter defence and of course a large ammount of fighters etc,

also to clarify i think i read somewhere that there is a cap on the number of fighters that will be allowing in a battle, can anyone verify the numbers ?

(fingers crossed for huge swarms of ships)

thanks

J

I believe that the way it works is that once you are in orbit around the planet you have vision of everything in orbit. So to spring a trap the ships would have to come out of phasespace.

And I agree that in most cases you are going to want your carriers to hang back out of the action. A dedicated carrier ship isn't going to have much in the way of offensive weaponry (aside from its fighters) so there is no point in risking it on the front lines... unless it turns out that they have exceptional armor/shields... then maybe use them to absorb damage... but I find that unlikely.

The Vasari, being cheeky little phase-space devils, know how to send false phase space sings.

You actually get a warning when an enemy fleet is going to your planet through phase space. However, the Vasari may send a flase signal to one planet to lure your amry away from another.

what about detection of fleets behind planets? will it be possible to "hide" a fleet

only if you do so by drugging your opponent!

Maybe the Advent can in fact do so? Perhaps they sneak a cloaked ship in and use its mind-powers to cloud the enemies sense of an area.

With this mind-based fog-of-war in place they sneak the rest of the fleet in undetected and launch a surprise attack.

For that matter maybe the others (TEC, Vasari) can do the same with other race-specific techs such as sensor-scramblers.

The sheer vastness of the game will negate any possible fog of war.

However, there was a ship shown sometime back that blended into its enviornment by using a sort camo exterior. So, anything is possible.

Plus, it is already know that you see all the ships in the system by scrolling over the tab so it would not be good to mess this system up.
