Coolest Book Ever!

Ok, maybe not ever... but it's still a cool book

I recently purchased what I believe to be the coolest book ever. It is called The Intellectual Devotional by David S. Kidder & Noah D. Oppenheim. This book takes you on a day by day journey into intellectual growth.

Monday is for History, Tuesday is for Literature. Wednesday is devoted to the Visual Arts while Thursday concentrates on Science. The weekend begins with Music on Friday, with Philosophy on Saturday and Religion on Sunday.

Tomorrow, I will learn about Hammurabi's Code of Laws. Tuesday I will learn about Ernest Hemigway. Wednesday will be about the Bust of Nefertit and Thursday will be about Eratosthenes. My weekend will contain lessons on Melody, Socrates and Noah.

One of my favorite professors once said, "The purpose of a liberal arts education is to have the ability to read without footnotes." While this book is hardly an all inclusive encyclopedia, it is a fun way to get a little more "larnin'".

It is cool. A girl in the English club showed it to me and I bought it that same weekend. I - am - such - a - nerd!

A few years ago, we stumbled across a book in a used bookstore called "The Volume Encyclopedia". It was one of those books with EVERYTHING in it...and it was about 5000 pages thick!

Now, they're written for a younger age group, but if you ever find a set of "Childcraft" books in a thrift store, get them. I first learned about the Seven Wonders of the World from them, and read gems like "the Phantom Tollbooth" for the first time. They were sold by World Book in the 70's, so they show up in resale shops quite frequently.

As for being a nerd, it's just something you have to learn to live with...lol!

Of course, the good thing about this book is it is a daily devotional. With a 5,000 page book, I would buy it with the intent of reading it cover to cover, do ok for a few days, maybe even a week, then find myself wondering "whatever happened to that really cool book I bought that would have told me about everything?"

I need things structured for me. I'm an ADD kinda nerd. (hence the name sugar-high-elf.)

Oh my. There're more out there like me? I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

And I hope so too. I'll snatch up any guy who seems able to put up with/ understand my nerdiness.
