3 races.... 4 tech tree's.... what is going on?!?!?!?!

Ok from the 1up preview, we found out that there are 4 tech tree's, yet only 3 races. Does this mean there is a 4th hidden race? Thoughts/Feelings?

Well, I want to think that, but its possible its a common tech tree for everyone. But of course Ironclad wants to make it to where you can notice the difference between each races tech, so I'm confused.

I am wondering if there is a 4th tech tree of stolen tech that is modified for each race... Possibly only obtained via espionage?

Must have something to do with the campaign and how that turns out.

We still don't know what it is that attacked the Vasari, y'know, the thing they are running from...possibly the tech tree is related to that somehow.

Maybe your not looking at this from the right perspective. 3 races each with 4 tech trees

What like tier 1, 2, 3 and X from SupCom, I hope not.

From the official interview:

Each race gets one unique tree, and there's a special one I can't say much about at this point.

I'm gonna stick with the "fourth race that the Vasari are running from" theory.

I'm not saying the fourth race could be playable, or that it could even be a race, maybe an entity or something, and the fourth tech tree could be related to fighting it.

Pure speculation mind you.

I really don't think that the Vasari's pursuers are a race. Personally I'd say some kind of giant space monster.

"found the crew apparently mad with terror."

But that could be some kind of terror weapon used by the other race or it could be because of the giantness of the thing (which is probably giant).

Then if it's a race why would they spend 10,000 years chasing the Vasari, that's one hell of a peeved revenge spree. Whereas it could just be a mindless space being attracted to Vasari technology...or maybe their yummy flesh...hehehe........

And the fourth tech tree, I agree. Probably something to do with the evil chasing Vasari thing...

I think it was the Vasaris own power and arrogance that undid their empire. Maybe some kind of creation the made to keep track of all the races they subjugated.

One way to have both a fourth race and a common tech tree, but still not really either, is that olds SF staple the Precursors. This ancient high-tech race populated the galaxy long ago before dying out/acending/whatever, leaving behind strange artifacts that can grant great power to whomever finds them and unlocks their mysteries.

I agree with Emperor he's probably right - They probably invented Google or something.

unlikely, its too cheezy/overdone.

back off, you know I came up with the reverse engineering idea first.
Maybe some kind of creation the made to keep track of all the races they subjugated.

I think they're just a bit more creative than that... but maybe not.

and besides, if it was just meant explicitely to fight that one thing, why would they bother mentioning it as "another tech tree" because it really isnt, its just a pathetic "research this to live!!!" tak on. I'm sticking with the reverse engineering.

I would think that basedon the what we have seen, one good possiblity is the tech based on Artifacts that Ola mentioned:

.

Based on that pic you see artifacts, perhaps they are there for some other purpose( maybe just bonus reserach or something), but it is also entirely possible that they will lend themselves to the foruth mysterious tech.

Thoughs artifacts you see, ill bet they are asteroid fields

Just wandering off topic a bit, a like how in the screenshot planets closest to the star are molten while the habitable ones are an adequate distance out, mundane I know but you don't see it often.

I really don't think that the Vasari's pursuers are a race

Yes it could very well be an entity or some dark force etc. The fourth tech tree maybe some "anti bad guy machine".

ask yourself, does that really qualify as another tech tree?
would you mention it in an interview as something "mysterious" if it was only just that.
Based on that pic you see artifacts

no, I'm quite certain those are asteroids.

It could be different variants of the "Anti bad guy" machine, or it could be a long line of prerequisites from a giant one.

All of this is pure speculation since Ironclad seem adamant on keeping this a secret.

Who knows it could somehow be related to "the Sins of our past" mentioned in the trailer.

still, I dont see them making this huge deal out of one tech tree that has very VERY limited usage.
I don't think any self respecting game designer would call a tech tree specifically designed to counter one person/thing/race a "tech tree" on foot with the purified tech trees.
and also note; would every race go about researching anti-thingy technology the same way? I dont think so.
again, I could be wrong. in which case I'm making an ass out of myself.

Like I said...purely speculative.

Hmm, maybe its a tech for the pirats?
As i remember Blair said the AI wont cheat (or was it the other way around?!?) so it might be for them.

If they can capture a planet and you let them be. They might be able to evolve, with some resource.

but as said purely speculation

Most likely the 4th tech tree is just a neutral tech tree - something for minor races or whatever - Then again I personally like the idea of a "common" tech tree shared between all four races.

I've just come over from the GC2 forums, coincidentally from a post about pirates in Dark Avatar, in DA they are way too powerful and can trounce even the most powerful empires, lets hope that doesn't happen in Sins (we don't want a Lucian Alliance do we Stargaters) although it would make for some cool battles.

well, if you dont deal with a problem, it will still be there and get stronger.

If they are able to expand with tech and ships, its better to deal with them as soon as possible.
I find that very interesting
