Why do most .dream files crash Dreamscenes?

Why is it that most .dream files cause windows dreamscenes to crash?

Only 2 work, Robotica and Deep Ocean.

The others, when trying to load cause dreamscenes balloon to say:

Windows Dreamscene has encountered an error.

The video file format is not supported, or there was an error decoding this video file.

Can anyone help?

Have you installed a 3rd party mpeg2 decoder?

Ultimate has its own one built in already.

I wonder if WMP somehow isn't the default mpeg2 player?

You must download and install the free deskcapes program from here http://dream.wincustomize.com first in order to be able to run the dream files you download from here.

I had assumed that. I have installed Deskscapes and dreammaker.
Nobody else is experiencing dreamscenes crashing?

Haven't had any problems here. Maybe picking one I like the best.

Hey,

I thought I might as well add a little alchemy in this post... well having seen what the others told above it's safely to assume that your problem relies on the Graphics Card Drivers. Most drivers as of yet don't support native-on-gpu hd-decoding (h264). Hence you might get errors from there since if the gfx fails you get a blank screen for some seconds until windows "revives" your gfx again, if this continues windows "disables" Dreamscene for stability and safety reasons. Well tbh you ought to give us more info on your system if you are to help you, because I frankly don't know what configuration you have or what your problems might be. But as I said above usually these problems are mostly due to graphics hardware drivers inability to render correctly the desired content.

One side note, please give hardware manufacturers some time because there SO many things that must change in the GFX driver due to the new model that Vista has for rendering, so sadly it takes time. But I am as frustrsated as many users are because I can't yet play games due to the driver bugs or worse lack of performance due to poor optimization in the drivers code... Well, as an advice I tell you to update your gfx drivers (as well as your chipset's too) even if they are beta observe the results and post back if you have any issues

I've found that, even the latest Intel video chipsets, including that used in the 945GM chipset (the GMA950) is horrible, anything that requires shared system memory to meet a spec should be avoided at all costs.

If you buy a system meant to use Vista Ultimate you'd think the system would be more robust. I know the 950 meets minimum specs but as this person is finding out you get what you pay for.

I just bought the blissful sunset DreamScene and it is not working. I click it and nothing comes up. What a waste of $5. Same thing happens with a number of the other DreamScenes I have DL'd from here. Running on a brand new Dell XPS410 with and NVidia Gforce 7900 GS. Plenty of RAM. Grrrrrrrrrrr. Anybody having the same problem? Any suggestions?

do you have the dreamscapes program installed?

I think i've found the problem.

I use a different media player (not wmp11) because I think wmp11 is just bloatware.

All my WMA dreams froze explorer but the mpeg's worked fine. I then associated wma files with windows media player and the wma dreams worked again. Perhaps those of you that are having MPEG's freeze (blissful sunset is mpeg) or having all of them freeze need to associate the file names with windows media player 11. Try that and see if it helps
