The Fall of the Drath Legion

Mission 1 of The Dark Avatar

I decided to do an AAR... However, I didn't want any AAR. I was going to do the Dread Lords Campaign, but I really don't feel like going back to DL. Time for DA! So, here's the Fall of the Drath:

December 9, 2225 (Terran Standard). Imperial Command Center, Starbase Koj'thok, in orbit of Drengi, Drengin homeworld.

Lord Vire was the direct commander of intelligence forces, offensive attacks and defensive attacks. He was the top advisor of Emperor Kona and had fought many battles for his master. And here he was now, sitting in a desk while the Drengin conquered the galaxy. Typical.

"My lord?" someone said from outside. Vire raised his hand to dismiss the fool, but the next words stopped him. "The Emperor is on channel 0."

Vire swung his chair around and cursed. That wasn't good. Nothing could hack Channel 0. Not even the Dread Lords. If the Emperor was using it...

The holographic viewscreen activated, and Vire stood up, bowed, then sat down.

"Lord Vire, I have a job for you. The Korath have taken a 'no prisoners' policy. They eradicated several Terran colonies and bases that they could have captured. So I want you to assign someone to assist them in the downfall of the Drath. Make sure we get slaves out of there alive," Kona shouted over the sound of weapons fire.

Vire shuddered, and nodded. His Emperor's flagship was under attack, as Kona broke the channel and gave orders to his crew. The hologram vanished seconds later.

The Drengin stood. He didn't need to give much thought to the matter. "Get me Carkon O'Vrask, leader of the Ornak Clan. Now!" screamed the Drengin.

January 1, 2226 (Terran Standard). Drengin Battleship 935, in orbit of Caph I, former Drath world.

Carkon sat down in his command throne, watching the crew on the bridge go about their tasks. Below sat his new prize, Caph I.

Lord Vire had ordered him to assist the Korath assault on Dratha. This world was suited as a command center for the operation. They had invaded quickly. Little blood was shed as the Drath had moved most defenses to intercept the Korath.

Approximately 300,000 Drath had been pressed into slavery and had repaired the city. They were at work constructing an embassy for when they met Lord Drimm, a Korath leader.

"Sir, the planet is secure. Our scouts have found an area covered in Precursor artifacts. Some of them are 'holocrons' artifacts containing knowledge. But all would significantly help a laboratory if build there, possibly by 300%," reported Lord Naosk, the new planetary commander.

Carkon nodded and ordered the starport to begin construction of a colony-type vessel.

"My lord, we already have the Tir'Ah, a Colony Ship, in our fleet. Why another one?" asked the logistics officer. The Drengin lord smashed his fist into the command throne and stood up, taking out a laser pistol, screaming angrily.

"Because I ordered it, fool! Now get back to work." he said and left the bridge, heading for the planet's surface. On the way, he told the ship's captain to take it and StarFighter Squadrons 386, 430, and 20 to the nearest star system and examine it.

"Also, order the Xanthos to begin probing for Precursor ruins and anomalies. Have Constructor 386 kept here, in orbit, until we find a suitable site for construction. And order the Kathis Duris to patrol the quadrant." finished Carkon O'Vrask, and launched his shuttle taking him to the surface of Caph.

Interesting idea. One tip, however - exposition lines like "the Tir'Ah, a Colony Ship" can be useful for setting the stage, but they can also jar the reader as being awkward. Then again, this is a Drengin talking. You never can tell with them.

Thanks for the compliments. Next one is coming.... now.

January 2, 2226 (Terran Standard). Drengin Command Center in the capital of Caph I, former Drath world.

Lord Naosk stood, rising from his throne-like chair. The doors to the inner control room opened and Carkon o'Vrask, warlord of the Ornak clan, strode through, escorted by guards. The two Drengin soldiers had plasma rifles strapped over their shoulders and were carrying ceremonial spears.

"Ah, Naosk. I will be taking command over the battle from here," Carkon said smoothly. The Drengin lord bowed, and nodded. Carkon did not move, his face expressionless. "Get out of that chair," he finally hissed. Lord Naosk nodded and moved into a second chair in front of a terminal.

The Warlord looked around, and asked for a progress report.

"My lord, we have begun to study Drath science, and have an understanding of how they think. This 'Xeno Research' will better our scientific laboratories, such as the one being built on the Precursor remains," Isik, the Drengin Science Chief reported.

"We are producing a colony ship in the starport as ordered. Time to completion is unknown," the Chief Engineer added.

Carkon clenched his teeth, and nodded, reading through reports of the other departments and of the plans for the Drengin colonization of Caph II. The Tir'Ah would arrive in two weeks.

January 5, 2226 (Terran Standard). The Xanthos, leaving the Caph system.

Captain Vaxor looked down at his interface terminal, leaning back in his throne. Sensors had spotted a floating piece of rubble, and their job was to investigate things like that.

"Navigator, set course to intercept rubble. Pilot, power up the It'In Ion Drive Mechanism now. Full speed ahead. Oh, prep a shuttle to probe through the debris. Get to it!" Vaxor ordered to his crew. They jumped and started to work.

Down in the shuttle hangar, a team of scientists, engineers, and soldiers had assembled in one of the Aktar-class shuttles. These craft carried no hyperdrive, just sublight propulsion. They did have two retractable arms that could take debris in, and they were small enough to do asteroid manuevers.

After the ship arrived near the rubble and the ion drive powered down, the captain of the team flipped a switch, and the roar of electrical thrusters began. It shot out of the doors and straight into the asteroid field. In seconds, they had retrieved a piece of debris.

"What is it?" asked one of the engineers. Another took the device, attached it into a scanning mechanism, and hooked the scanner into the ship's computer. Letters and words in Genr, the written language of the Drengin empire, flashed over the screen.

"It's a device- or what's left of it- that creates soothing sound waves. They relax people and make them less stressful. It would be useful in keeping occupied races under control and happy with our government," the second engineer answered. "Let's get it to Caph and our clanleader."

January 8, 2226 (Terran Standard). Xanthos near a meteor above the Caph system.

Back onboard the Xanthos, Captain Vaxor had made another find. They had retrieved a machine that implanted thoughts. It would improve influence, and might help Carkon when he negotiated with Lord Drimm of the Korath clan. The ship headed away to find new debris in space and test it for usefulness.

The artifact had been brought by shuttle to Warlord Carkon, along with the other one, and he was pleased- as pleased as a Drengin can be, that is.

More to come later, maybe even later today. I know it was short.

Okay, here's the third chapter of 'The Fall of the Drath Legion'. Enjoy!

January 13, 2226 (Terran Standard). The Tir'Ah, in orbit of Caph II, uncolonized world.

Commandant Talvor was a low-ranking Drengin officer. Low-ranking officers were usually assigned to starbases, but he had gotten the job as commander of the Tir'Ah.

The large starship was approximately 933 meters long with a span of 497 meters. It's mass was 1.2 million metric tons, and had a crew of 1,400 Drengin marines, officers, and engineers.

"Commandant, scouts have been deployed to study the planet. We estimate results shortly," one of his crew said to him. The Drengin waved his hand dismissively.

"Inform me when done. Prepare to disengage docking clamps on the Vox'tir civilian transport. When they are disengaged, launch on my signal. Don't damage any of the 500 million colonists, even if half of them are slaves," replied Talvor.

January 14, 2226 (Terran Standard). Drengin Command Center in the capital of Caph I, former Drath world.

Carkon watched as the viewscreen flickered to life. A picture of Commandant Talvor filled the screen. The Drengin officer looked pleased. Maybe it was going to be interesting this time, thought the warlord.

"My lord! Reporting from orbit of Caph II," shouted Talvor, saluting.

"Enough of that. What's down there?" asked Warlord Carkon.

"Yes, my lord. We've found an area of rich soil which will double farming efforts there. In one of the more mountainous regions there is an area of rich mineral resources. These will double the effectiveness of manufacturing. And there is a spring that produces a calming effect. It appears to be natural, but it will boost the morale of the colony," reported Commandant Talvor.

"Very well. Drop the colonists now. Immediatly," finished Carkon, and terminated transmission. He looked at Lord Naosk. "Promote Commandant Talvor directly to Lord Talvor, commander of Caph II. Under the authority of his Clanleader, Warlord Carkon Ornak o'Vrask. Got that?" finished the former, coming out of his high-and-mighty tone.

"My lord! Scientests report a new breakthrough. We've finished anaylzing the Xeno Research theories, and are moving on to New Propulsion Techniques. The idea is to make us able to produce more of the It'In Ion Mechanisms, eventually," Isik said, pausing for breath. She had been running all the way from the research facility.

January 16, 2226 (Terran Standard). Constructor 386, Sector 3-1.

Chief Othik, commander of Constructor 386, paused for breath. His vessel had been travelling through a large area of space, and had been damaged in a meteorite shower. The Xanthos had stopped by for help and had collected meteorites for sampling.

"What's that?" one of the technicians said to the sensor operator.

"It appears to be... some kind of floating canister. Spherical configuration. Scanning for more details," replied the sensor operator. "It contains metal. Not any metal, Orvagolth. It appears to be an alloy of several highly valuable natural minerals which the Drengin value. We've seen these before. Each contains a different mineral."

"Who would throw a bunch of Orvagolth in the middle of space in a floating ball?" demanded Othik, but he knew the answer. Only one race could have done that.

The Precursors. They were everywhere. Constructors often set up Mining Starbases that harvested their resources. Apparently, the Precursor cargo shipping system involved placing resources into containers. These containers were in the shape of three-dimensional figures. Then, they were launched into space using an energy field. This field carried them across the galaxy, and when it slowed, other fields from other worlds took over to bring it to the recievers.

As miners had discovered, the spheres contained metal that was worth many credits and helped the economy. But all containers were invulnerable to beam weaponry- it was simply added to the energy field that propelled the container.

I decided to name the Economic resource. But I didn't like my name too much, so I said that each Eco resource contained a different metal.

So far, so good. I like your emphasis on third-person narratives to tell how your campaign's going along. Keep it up!

I know I haven't done anything on this for half a year almost, but I am working on the next section. Due to a series of complicated events, I never posted the one after this.

This is pretty good. I just find it funny that the Dregnin are keeping time based on the Terran calendar.

Well... let's say that it is an intelligence report from a Terran cover-operative. I am trying to come up with a Drengin calendar. But it is complicated, so I probably will keep these coming as intelligence reports.
